  • Patent number: 8037927
Abstract: A cooling device for cooling an electronic component. The device has an enclosure adapted to contain a liquid coolant. The enclosure has an internal channel system comprising a cavity adjacent the electronic component, a first group of arborizing channels adapted to carry the liquid coolant away from the cavity, a second group of arborizing channels adapted to carry the liquid coolant to the cavity, and a plenum fluidically connecting the first and seconds groups of arborizing channels. Each group of arborizing channels has a parent branch and multiple successive sets of daughter branches with successively smaller cross-sectional areas, wherein the sum of the cross-sectional areas of the daughter branches of any set is approximately the same as that of its parent branch. Distal sets of the daughter branches are most distant from the cavity, fluidically connected to the plenum, and have the smallest cross-sectional areas of the daughter branches.

  • Patent number: 8021961
Abstract: A process for fabricating multiple microfluidic device chips. The process includes fabricating multiple micromachined tubes in a semiconductor device wafer. The tubes are fabricated so that each tube has an internal fluidic passage and an inlet and outlet thereto defined in a surface of the device wafer. The device wafer is then bonded to a glass wafer to form a device wafer stack, and so that through-holes in the glass wafer are individually fluidically coupled with the inlets and outlets of the tubes. The glass wafer is then bonded to a metallic wafer to form a package wafer stack, so that through-holes in the metallic wafer are individually fluidically coupled with the through-holes of the glass wafer. Multiple microfluidic device chips are then singulated from the package wafer stack. Each device chip has a continuous flow path for a fluid therethrough that is preferably free of organic materials.

  • Patent number: 7998921
Abstract: A method of eliminating or at least reducing toilet odor by applying a liquid composition directly to the water contained in a toilet bowl prior to use. The liquid composition contains about 60 to about 70 weight percent diethylene glycol monoethyl ether (CH2OHCH2OCH2CH2OC2H5), the balance being at least additional constituent, such as fragrances and/or stabilizers. The liquid composition reacts with the water so as to roil in the water, forms a sheen on the surface of the water, and reduces toilet odors during and following usage of the toilet bowl.

  • Patent number: 7997891
Abstract: A molding process and apparatus suitable for use in molding processes, including rapid prototyping processes and short run production processes. The molding process and apparatus entail the use of a reconfigurable screen tool having a housing defining a manifold cavity and a plurality of substantially parallel pins, each having a head protruding from the housing and a shank protruding into the housing. The heads of the pins define a screen surface through which air is able to flow, for example, through gaps between adjacent heads or through internal passages within the pins. The process further includes axially moving the pins to configure the screen surface, preventing further axial movement of the pins relative to each other, and then drawing a vacuum within the manifold cavity and creating a vacuum at the screen surface.

  • Patent number: 7954573
Abstract: A drive-steering control system suitable for off-road land and amphibious vehicles. The system includes first and second steering input levers, each operable to rotate in forward and rearward pivotal directions. A coupling mechanism converts and transmits rotation of the first steering input lever in the forward pivotal direction into rotation of the second steering input lever in the rearward pivotal direction, and vice-versa. A reducing mechanism operates to selectively reduce the propulsion outputs of first and second propulsion devices, and a converting mechanism operates to convert the rotations of the steering input levers into inputs to the reducing mechanism. Depending on the directions the steering input levers are rotated, the reducing mechanism reduces the propulsion output of either the first or second propulsion device, which causes either the lefthand or righthand side of the vehicle to travel at a lower speed and thereby turn the vehicle either left or right.

  • Patent number: 7914033
Abstract: A method and apparatus suitable for stabilizing a two-wheeled motorcycle during operation. The apparatus is securable to a location near the front of the motorcycle engine. At least one arm assembly extends in a rearward direction relative to the motorcycle and outboard of the motorcycle's engine and operator's seat. A wheel assembly is mounted at an rearward end of the arm assembly and includes a wheel engageable with a surface supporting the motorcycle. A biasing assembly biases the arm assembly to rotate upward an adjustable limited distance at which the wheel is not engaged with the support surface. The biasing assembly applies a biasing resistance to downward rotation of the arm assembly over the limited distance for engaging the wheel with the support surface, yet allows the arm assembly to rotate upward farther than the limited distance to a raised position.

  • Patent number: 7895872
Abstract: A products having at least a portion thereof with a nanocrystalline microstructure, and methods of producing such products. The method generally entails machining a body to produce a polycrystalline chip having a nanocrystalline microstructure. The chips produced by the machining operation may be in the form of particulates, ribbons, wires, filaments and/or platelets. The chips may be consolidated (with or without comminution) to form a product, such that the product is essentially a nanocrystalline monolithic material consisting essentially or entirely of nano-crystals, or of grains grown from nano-crystals. Alternatively, the chips may be dispersed in a matrix material, such that the product is a composite material in which the chips are dispersed as a reinforcement material. According to a particular aspect, a monolithic article can be formed entirely from a single chip by deforming the chip and/or removing material from the chip.
