  • Patent number: 4564828
Abstract: An electromagnetic relay wherein a force-transmitting member or actuator is carried by the armature to engage the contactor, which carries a moveable contact, such as to provide several different mechanical advantages in moving the moveable contact into firm engagement with a stationary contact. The actuator is provided with an inclined surface such that when the electromagnetic force on the armature is minimum, the actuator engages the contactor in a particular location to provide a mechanical advantage which requires minimum force in moving the moveable contact, and thereafter when the armature is within its strong magnetic force range, the inclined surface causes such actuator to engage the contactor in a different location to thereby provide maximum travel in urging the moveable contact into engagement with the stationary contact.

  • Patent number: 4554521
Abstract: An armature/contact system wherein the armature rotates about a given axis, and a contactor is mounted thereon for movement therewith. The contactor is so formed as to have a resilient member having a contact surface which is within a plane which includes the axis of rotation of the armature. A stationary contact is provided for engagement by such contactor, such stationary contact having an arcuate contact surface. Limit-stop means is provided for defining the position of the contactor surface within a plane which intersects the axis of the armature whenever the contactor surface and stationary contact surface are out of engagement with each other.

  • Patent number: 4537328
Abstract: A storage tank, principally for fluids, having an inner primary tank formed of steel, and having a plastic coating, and an outer tank formed of sheet material composed of glass fibers and plastic resin, and having a coating of glass fibers and resin applied to the exterior thereof. Elongated spacers formed of plastic material and having a generally semi-circular, arcuate cross-section are positioned between the cylindrical wall of the primary and outer tanks as well as between the corresponding endwalls thereof. The elongated arcuate spacers beneath the primary tank are in closer spaced relation to each other than are the elongated arcuate spacers above the primary tank. A plastic elongated probe member is positioned between the adjacent endwalls of the primary and outer tanks to be positioned vertically when the storage tank is properly mounted in a horizontal position, to enable tests to be made within such probe member of fluid material which may accumulate between the primary and outer tanks.

  • Patent number: 4518295
Abstract: A fastening nut, which by virtue of precisely located laser cuts and the application of predetermined torque to a grip member, is enabled to break into several parts, one of which can be used as a jam nut. The nut is provided with an internally threaded sleeve, a grip member and interconnecting means, the latter of which may be provided with one or more shear areas by virtue of a series of laser cuts. At a predetermined torque on the grip member, the sleeve is sheared from the interconnecting means and grip member and, as a second embodiment, the interconnecting means may be provided with internal fastening threads so that further torquing of the grip member drives such interconnecting means into the sleeve and thereafter a second shear separation is effected to remove the grip member from the jam nut.

  • Patent number: 4508486
Abstract: In a high-speed, high-volume ventilation fan, a noise-attenuating housing structure includes a perforated inner casing contained within a solid-walled outer casing. Filling the space between the inner and outer casings is a porous, sound-absorbing material. To prevent loss of downstream pressure, and therefore operational efficiency, due to leakages of air through the sound-absorbing material from the downstream side at the fan blades to the upstream side thereof, an annular anti-flow barrier is situated in the space between the inner and outer casings slightly downstream of the fan blades. The structure thus provides a high degree of noise attenuation without sacrificing operational efficiency.

  • Patent number: 4486925
Abstract: A clasp or buckle is disclosed for several chains, strings of beads, pearls and like jewelry whereby the chains or strings may be arranged and fastened into various ornamental and multi-stranded closed loop configurations at the option of a user of the jewelry. The clasp or buckle includes a substantially hollow main buckle member having two parts hingedly attached to one another. The main buckle member receives and removably mounts a plurality of connecting members in a substantially parallel, substantially regularly spaced configuration. Ends of the connecting members form hooks, loops or eyelets to which respective ends of the chains or strings of beads, pearls and the like can be mounted.

  • Patent number: 4467404
Abstract: A three dimensional reflective device for attachment to an individual spoke of a spoked wheel includes a pair of matched and mating reflective elements which are attached to each other and to the spoke by a spoke-retention assembly which is completely enclosed by the reflective elements when the device is installed. The spoke-retention assembly includes a pin having a passage to accommodate the spoke, and a locking element which locks the spoke firmly to said pin within the passage. The pin is frictionally retained in a pair of bearing members projecting from the interiors of the reflective elements. Retention of the pin in the bearing members results both in the attachment of the reflective elements to each other, and in the securing of the locking element in its locking position, thereby firmly securing the entire device to the spoke.

  • Patent number: 4463331
Abstract: An electromagnetic relay which is formed with two distinct and separate compartments, one of which houses the electromagnetic motor and the other of which contains the electroresponsive armature as well as stationery and moveable contacts. Such separate compartments and their components therewithin can be manufactured separately to be subsequently joined together to make the completed relay, with any one of the electromagnetic motors being joined with any one of the armature/contact operating structures. The relay comprises permanent magnet means to increase motor efficiency and which can provide a latching function. Unique stationery contact structures are provided for receiving the motion from the moveable contact as afforded by the armature.

  • Patent number: 4412611
Abstract: A transport mechanism for use in material handling systems whereby a multiplicity of like objects are automatically and rapidly transported from a storage compartment thereof to a predetermined location. Such mechanism receives a plurality of such objects at each of two or more spaced inlet openings, causes the objects to be interleaved in a predetermined sequential manner, and to be successively fed in a single row to said predetermined outlet location. The objects received through each inlet opening are caused to be spaced with respect to each other and with respect to the objects received through the other inlet opening or openings in accordance with the size of each object and in accordance with the number of inlet openings employed, and are then interleaved with the objects from the other inlet openings to come together at the outlet opening in a single row for placement individually and sequentially in a given position at said predetermined location.
