Abstract: The invention relates to an optical scanning device for apparatuses for recording and/or reproducing information on optical recording media, which is suitable in particular for recording and/or reproducing information at high speed, such as, for example, the scanning of a DVD at a twelve-fold speed. According to the invention, the optical scanning device has a lens holder which is formed by a hollow body and whose side walls are arranged such that they run at an angle to a connecting point with its elastic support. The thus hexagonally formed lens holder has advantageous air chambers and an enlarged distance from the lens, and also an elastic support deviating from a parallel guide, which lead to a low degree of lens tilting, improved guidance properties and a natural resonance behaviour which is necessary for scanning at high speed. The field of application relates to the production of scanning devices for optical recording media which are provided for recording and/or reproducing information at high speed.

Abstract: A wireless telephone system comprises a base transceiver having a base receiver and a plurality of wireless handsets. Each handset comprises a handset transceiver for establishing a DSSS link over a shared channel with the base unit via the base transceiver. Each receiver the base transceiver and the handset transceivers receives a spread-spectrum signal representing symbol data from a transmitter of the system, where each such receiver comprises a derotator that derotates the spread-spectrum signal in accordance with a counter-rotating signal to provide a derotated signal; a correlator for receiving the derotated signal and for providing output symbol data based on the derotated signal; a carrier tracking loop (CTL) phase error estimator for receiving the output symbol data and for generating a CTL phase error signal based upon the rotation of the spread-spectrum signal; and a CTL for generating the counter-rotating signal based on the CTL phase error signal.

Abstract: A projection television has a screen with a three dimensional hologram on a film substrate for collecting light over a range of incident angles and redirecting the light more nearly forward. Vertical and horizontal holograms can have varying gain across a horizontal viewing span of ±40° and a vertical viewing span of ±20° can be stacked. Image projection tubes project an image onto at least one mirror that reflects the image along an optical path that converges at an angle of projection, &phgr;, between about 0° and 30° relative to an axis orthogonal to the screen. Each tube can have a separate mirror. The hologram redirects the images reflected to an angle of display relative to the orthogonal axis of the screen of from 0 to 5°.

Abstract: A horizontal deflection circuit generates a horizontal deflection current in a deflection winding, during a trace interval and during a retrace interval of a deflection cycle. A transistor is responsive to a vertical rate parabola signal and to a negative feedback signal for producing a vertical rate parabolic modulation voltage at a collector of the transistor. A negative feedback network generates the feedback signal that is indicative of a current flowing in the transistor for increasing an output impedance at the collector of the transistor. An inductor is coupled to the collector of the transistor for producing in the inductor a modulation current to provide for side pincushion distortion correction in an East-West modulator.

Abstract: A horizontal deflection circuit output stage includes a trace capacitor for developing a trace voltage. A retrace capacitance is coupled to a deflection winding to form a retrace resonant circuit with the deflection winding, during a retrace interval of a deflection cycle. A rectifier for rectifying a retrace pulse voltage developed in the retrace capacitance. A switching transistor is coupled to the inductance and to the trace capacitor for applying the rectified retrace pulse voltage to the inductance to generate a current in the inductance. The inductance current is coupled to the trace capacitor, during the trace interval, to provide for linearity correction. The rectifier is coupled to the switching transistor for producing a rectified control signal at a control terminal of the switching transistor to cause a change of state in the switching transistor, during the retrace interval.

Abstract: A projection television display apparatus comprises a display device with an image formed for projection and a display screen for receiving the projected image. A plurality of photo sensors are located adjacent to edges of the display screen and each generates an output signal responsive to an intensity of illumination by the projected image. A detector with controllable detection threshold is coupled to the photo sensors for generating a signal having a first state when the output signal generated by each of the plurality photo sensors is greater than the detection threshold, and a second state when the output signal generated by each of said plurality photo sensors is less than the detection threshold. A controller is coupled to the display device and to the detector for setting the detection threshold for the output signal generated by each one of the plurality of photo sensors.

Abstract: A method and system for providing rollover service from a competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) is disclosed. A routing table is provided which includes call reference values stored within a local bypass system. An incoming call is checked against the call reference values to determine if a call reference value of the incoming call is associated with a grouping of call reference values. The call is connected to a destination associated with a next available call reference value in the grouping using a network control system located within the local bypass system.

Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus for reproduction of double-sided recording media without any reversal of the direction of rotation or changing or turning over of the recording medium. A reproduction apparatus is disclosed where one side of the double-sided recording medium is reproduced continuously by being read backwards section by section. A data stream corresponding to the continuous reading is provided by bit-by-bit reversal of the data read.

Abstract: A mix/effect status display provides simultaneous information about each keyer and bus associated with a mix/effect bank without consuming the real estate required for the conventional button/knob per function approach. Also the sources coupled to the M/E buses are shown together with the transition status if a transition is in progress. A switcher working buffer has information about the switcher control panel controls, and transfers that information that relates to the mix/effects banks to a mix/effects status display driver. The driver provided the mix/effects status display with a row for each bus associated with the M/E and all information related to the source coupled to that bus together with information about the M/E operating mode and transition status, type and interval. Thus an operator has a complete picture of M/E status without requiring substantial additional real estate on the switcher control panel.

Abstract: The invention relates to a system for projecting or displaying images comprising a valve exhibiting a plurality of image-forming elements having a light transmission coefficient which can be controlled so as to present the image, and a means of illuminating the valve comprising a light source and an integrator having two lens arrays associated in such a way that each lens of the second array distributes over the valve the light received from a corresponding lens of the first array. This system comprises a means for focusing the illuminating beam onto the integrator. The dimensions of the integrator are thus minimized. The focusing means comprises, for example, a reflector which reflects the light produced by the source, the integrator being arranged substantially in the focal plane of the reflector.

Each handset has a handset transceiver for establishing a time-division multiple access (TDMA) link over a shared channel with the base unit via the base transceiver, in which each handset communicates during an exclusive time slot of a TDMA scheme that allocates time slots to handsets during an exclusive time slot of a TDMA scheme that allocates time slots to active handsets for receiving a spread spectrum signal comprising successive chips representing successive symbols. Each receiver has one or more demodulation loops for demodulating the received spread spectrum signal, wherein each demodulation loop is characterized by one or more demodulation loop parameters. A parallel correlator of the receiver detects a peak bin and provides the peak bin and two adjacent bins.

Abstract: An automation protocol subscription service has a new SUBSCRIBE command with subscription bits that is sent from an automation controller to a master control switcher to indicate to the master control switcher to which items of configuration/status the automation controller is subscribing. In return when one of the subscribed-to items changes, the master control switcher returns a new SUBSCRIPTION command that indicates the change to the automation controller. In this way the knowledge of the configuration/status of the master controller is maintained at the automation controller.

Abstract: A horizontal deflection circuit includes a horizontal deflection winding coupled to a retrace capacitor to form a retrace resonant circuit. An S-shaping capacitor is coupled to the deflection winding to form a first trace resonant circuit. A first switching transistor is responsive to a synchronizing first signal at a frequency related to a horizontal deflection frequency and coupled to the deflection winding for generating a deflection current in the deflection winding. A second switching transistor is responsive to the first signal and having first and second switching state, during first and second portions of the trace interval. The second switching transistor couples the S-shaping capacitor to a modulation inductance and to a modulation capacitor to form a second trace resonant circuit, during the second portion of the trace interval. The length of the second portion is modulated at a vertical rate parabolic manner for modulating a current in the S-shaping capacitor to provide modulated S correction.

Abstract: For control and correction of deflection parameters especially of convergence, a grid pattern is displayed on the picture screen of a television device. For control of the convergence parameters and the evaluation of the correction values the crossing points of the grid pattern are marked by a cursor. The cursor is formed by at least one irregularity in the grid pattern being, regular otherwise. The irregularity may consist in an omission within the grid pattern like an interruption within one horizontal or vertical grid line. An image signal generator for the grid pattern with position cursor includes a raster generator, a grid generator, a cursor generator, and means for combining a grid signal from the grid generator and a cursor signal from the cursor generator so as to inhibit the grid signal corresponding to locations on the grid pattern where the position cursor is visible by an absence of display of portions of the grid pattern.

Abstract: A dynamic focus voltage generator includes a source of a flyback input signal at a horizontal deflection frequency. A double integrator is responsive to the input signal for generating a parabolic periodic signal. An amplitude detector is responsive to the parabolic periodic signal for generating a control signal that is indicative of an amplitude of the parabolic periodic signal. A comparator is responsive to a signal at a reference level and to the control signal and coupled to the double integrator for regulating an amplitude of the parabolic periodic signal in a gain control negative feedback manner. A non-linear network is responsive to the parabolic periodic signal for producing a bathtub shaped output signal that is coupled to a focus electrode of a cathode ray tube.

Abstract: An apparatus and method of clock synchronization of a powerline modem network for a plurality of devices are provided. A plurality of devices are provided having a powerline modem and a clock (100). The powerline modem permits communication between the plurality of devices over a powerline network. A synchronization message is provided over the powerline network (102). The synchronization message includes an instruction for each of the plurality of devices to update their clock in accordance with a clock time provided in the synchronization message (104). A synchronization device may be provided to update device clocks on a powerline network.

Abstract: Electromagnetic deflection unit for colour cathode-ray tubes, comprising a pair of horizontal deflection coils and a pair of vertical deflection coils, the saddle-shaped vertical deflection coils having a rear bundle on the electron-gun side and a front bundle located on the screen side, lateral conductor harnesses 120 connecting the two bundles so as to produce a main window in the intermediate region lying between these said bundles, the conductor harnesses being arranged so that, at the front end of the main window 18, on the screen side, the window 18 extends over a radial angular aperture &PHgr; of greater than 38°. This arrangement of the conductors in the rear part of the window makes it possible to minimize the vertical convergence errors between the red and blue beams, so as to avoid the use of additional field shapers to correct the said errors.

Abstract: A tape recorder, having a reading device for a magnetic tape, is set up to read out simultaneously a number of data tracks recorded in parallel on the magnetic tape. Stored on the magnetic tape in the vertical direction relative to the data tracks is additional information which can be sensed as a whole in specific tape positions by the reading device. The additional information can contain information on the state of the tape. Such a tape recorder can read the information on the state of the tape immediately after the insertion of a magnetic tape cassette without the need for the magnetic tape to be transported to and fro.

Abstract: A wireless telephone system comprising a base unit coupleable to one or more external telephone lines and having a base transceiver, and at least one wireless handset. The wireless handset has a handset transceiver for establishing a digital link with the base unit via the base transceiver over a wireless channel, wherein the handset and base unit communicate via the digital link by fixed-size audio packets comprising a plurality of audio data samples and a plurality of error correction bits. Qualities of the digital link are monitored to determine whether a change in error rate occurs. In response to the determination, a packet structure of subsequent audio packets is changed from a first packet structure to a second packet structure to change the relative number of bits devoted to audio data samples and to error correction bits.
