  • Patent number: 4288420
Abstract: When exhaust gas from a coal-burning boiler containing NO.sub.x as well as SO.sub.x is subjected to NO.sub.x removal by catalytic reduction of the NO.sub.x with ammonia and the coal ashes contained in the gas are separated, the coal ashes are contaminated by a certain quantity of ammonium compounds produced from the SO.sub.x and the ammonia excessively used. The ammonium compounds in the coal ashes are decomposed into ammonia and a sulfur compound by heating by the hot gas at a temperature in the restricted range, viz. 350.degree. to 700.degree. C., thereby to release ammonia into the gas preferentially to the sulfur compound. The ammonia thus released is recycled to the NO.sub.x removal step.

Abstract: An underwater paving machine for making fillings on the river beds is provided comprising a boat having a platform carrying a working structure comprising a pair of uprights supporting a horizontal shaft driven by a motor and carrying a number of spools on which rolls of cables or wires are wound. Said cables or wires are intended to carry blocks made of vibrated concrete and initially supported by a cage intended to be anchored on the river bed. The cage with the blocks are sinked into the water so as to form the fillings on the river bed. The tension of cables or wires is controlled by independent clutches associated to the spools. The blocks are coupled to each other by fastening means both in horizontal and vertical directions. In the area of the boat mounting the working structure an enlargement of the hull is provided intended to increase the buoyancy of the boat. A pair of lateral tanks serve to stabilize the boat on the sides thereof.

  • Patent number: 4286449
Abstract: An apparatus for cleaning small diameter metal wires employing two sets of brushes arranged in pairs on the sides of the wire advancing into the apparatus. The respective sets of brushes each are at perpendicular planes to one another and define an enclosed sector of 180.degree. of the wire to be treated. The tips of the brushes co-act with the advancing wire to cause cleaning. A counterweight pressure assembly urges the brushes against the wire without promoting spreading of the wire elements of the brushes as the brushes wear out.

  • Patent number: 4284388
Abstract: The invention finds application in the manufacture of working blades of a length exceeding that of the blades known so far, without infringing the limitations issuing from flow considerations and strength of the rotor. The blade comprises two different sheets deliminated by a suitably selected intermediary cross section of the blade. Each of the sheets is formed according to a different law dictated by strength and flow considerations. Beginning from the cross-section which delimits the sheets, the sheets are twisted in opposite directions.

  • Patent number: 4284927
Abstract: A method for breaking direct current, whereby an initial gas pressure, corresponding to the working conditions of a stationary current channel, is set in a gas discharge device, whereafter direct current is passed through the gas discharge device, and the density of the gas filling said gas discharge device is simultaneously reduced over the entire volume of the gas discharge device to a critical value which causes a breaking of the direct current. The d.c. breaker for effecting this method is built around a gas discharge device comprising an anode, a cathode, and intermediate electrodes interposed between said anode and cathode. The cathode is formed by an end emitter, a cone-shaped reflector with the cone's apex facing the end emitter, and two coaxial cylinders encompassing the end emitter and reflector.

  • Patent number: 4284401
Abstract: A bed of solid particles on an air distributor of a fluidized-bed furnace is fluidized by upward currents of air fed through the distributor. A fuel to be burnt in the fluidized bed is premixed with carrying air, and the fuel-air mixture is fed into the bed from a burner extending upwardly through the distributor. For utmost combustion efficiency the ratio by mass of the feed rate of the fuel-carrying air to the sum of the feed rates of the fuel-carrying air and the bed-fluidizing air is adjusted by flow control valves so as to be in the range of from about 0.2 to 0.6. The head of the burner is of such construction that the fuel-air mixture is ejected therefrom in the form of swirling jets. The burner head is usually located about 50 millimeters above the distributor.
