  • Patent number: 4431328
Abstract: A knuckle or swivel joint of the half-ball and socket type comprising a stud terminating in an enlarged diameter half-ball member disposed in the socket member and having a recess in which is engaged a biasing insert member made of resilient or elastomeric material placed under compression during assembly of the joint. The joint bearing surfaces are elastically pre-loaded in an appropriate direction which causes firm engagement of the bearing surfaces in mutual engagement and thus preventing play and rattling of the joint and compensating for wear.

  • Patent number: 4427352
Abstract: In a die, punch and core rod assembly for a powder compacting press wherein the core rod or rods remain stationary while the punch or punches are reciprocable relative to the die, the invention provides individual longitudinal position adjustment for the core rods by fitting the end of the core rods in a threaded member such as a set screw threading in a threaded bore in a core rod support member. The core rod support member is in the form of a pair of plates one defining a core rod support plate and the other a retainer plate, sandwiching a plastic locking plate. The core rods are immobilized in their adjusted position by the plastic locking plate, sandwiched between the core rod support plate and the retainer plate, being provided with a threaded bore aligned with the threaded bore in the support plate and having a slight screwthread mismatch with the threaded bore in the support plate.

  • Patent number: 4425730
Abstract: An improved artificial fishing lure for top water or surface fishing of the general type sometimes referred to as the "buzzbait" variety. The body of the lure has a forward section of hull shape provided with at least one keel or fin extending downwardly at the trailing end of the hull. The rearward section of the lure body is a solid shank with a hook attached at its trailing end and suitable for affixing various types of artificial or natural baits. The body of the lure has a flat surface forming a bend at an angle of 120.degree. to 170.degree.. The keel or fin, centered beneath the bend at the trailing end of the hull, has a circle painted on each side so as to imitate an eye. Two bulges are disposed in the lower surface of the lure body between the bend and the fin for the purpose of adding stability to the lure body. A loop is affixed proximate the forward end of the hull for attaching the end of a fishing line. The loop is formed with an upper leg disposed rearwardly at an angle.

  • Patent number: 4425492
Abstract: In the electrical discharge machining of the surface of a recess in a workpiece electrode to a shape corresponding to that of a tool electrode, the electrodes are relatively displaced, during a finishing phase of machining, along an axis of penetration and simultaneously in a plane perpendicular to the axis of penetration with a cyclic translational movement whose amplitude increases with the penetration of the tool in the workpiece. This provides a virtual 3-dimensional dilatation of the tool as it advances, and enables control of the sparking in both the frontal and lateral parts of the machining zone, such that the shape of the machined portion is an image of the tool shape. The cyclic translational movements can be obtained with an eccentric member whose eccentricity relative to a shaft is controlled by limiting axial movement of the shaft at a position corresponding to a predetermined penetration.

  • Patent number: 4424185
Abstract: A part pick-up head for transferring a part from the ejection station of an apparatus, such as a powder compacting apparatus, to a discharge station. The pick-up head is internally provided with a pair of reciprocating jaws, actuated by pressurized fluid such as compressed air, and arranged to clamp the part at the ejection station with enough pressure to hold the part securely for transfer to the discharge station. At the discharge station, the clamping jaws are spread apart by a return spring when fluid pressure is released. Auxiliary holding means in the form of suction ports above the part may be disposed in the pick-up head, and the pick-up head may also incorporate suction orifices sweeping clean the surface of the die plate over which the pick-up head travels from the ejection station to the discharge station.

  • Patent number: 4422493
Abstract: A support member for the end of a rotatable shaft for winding and unwinding a curtain of articulated slats forming a roll-type shutter or awning. The support member is made of a pair of interlocked, L-shaped plates forming a box-like structure open at both ends. A bushing, through which is passed the end of the rotatable shaft, is journalled through one of the L-shaped plates and is held in position by a U-shaped saddle member. The support member is converted to a gear drive by replacing the bushing with a worm wheel and mounting in the U-shaped saddle member a worm gear meshing with the worm wheel. The worm gear is mounted on, or made integral with, a drive shaft. The U-shaped saddle member is arranged to be mounted in any one of a plurality of positions within the box-like enclosure so as to provide several possible orientations for the drive shaft.

  • Patent number: 4420671
Abstract: An adjustable and controllable electrode wire support and guide mechanism for traveling wire EDM apparatus wherein an electrode wire, longitudinally fed, is stretched between a pair of support and guide members, and wherein at least one of the support and guide members is in the form of a helically grooved cylindrical member directly driven by a servo-motor. The helical groove defines guiding surfaces for the electrode wire which is in engagement with opposite sidewalls of the groove and, by rotating the helically grooved support and guide member by the servo-motor, the electrode wire is caused to take a predetermined inclination relative to the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4418501
Abstract: A lapping method and apparatus providing accurate lapping of a workpiece surface and substantially even wear of the lap surface in the course of a lapping operation cycle. The workpiece having a surface to be lapped is held in an oscillating plate reciprocated along a first axis, and displaced at a much lower rate along a second axis. The plate is reciprocated along the first axis by means of a rigid link pivotally attached at one end to the plate and at another end to a rotating eccentric. The plate is displaced along the second axis by means of a pair of rigid parallel links pivotally attached to the plate at one end and pivotally attached each to a rotating eccentric at their other end.
