  • Patent number: 6600298
Abstract: In a DC-DC converter, a technique for sensing current supplied to a load and establishing an output voltage that conforms to a predetermined load line. The current carried by an inductor is sensed and used to control the duty cycle of the voltage applied to the inductor, thereby controlling the output voltage. A current sensing circuit includes a feedback network. A pole attributable to the feedback network cancels a zero attributable to the inductor so that a control voltage is developed that varies substantially linearly with the load current.

  • Patent number: 6482635
Abstract: A method is provided for reducing or eliminating off-flavor in water or fish by controlling cyanobacteria or algae in the water or fish wherein the cyanobacteria or algae produce agents that cause the off-flavor. The cyanobacteria or algae are susceptible to a new Bacterium NRRL B-30043 which heretofore has not been identified or recognized as a useful agent in controlling cyanobacteria or algae. By simply treating a body of water having an off-flavor with Bacterium NRRL B-30043, the off-flavor is reduced or eliminated. Commercial fisheries or nurseries which produce channel catfish for human consumption will benefit from using this environmentally friendly Bacterium NRRL B-30043 to reduce or eliminate off-flavor in the catfish.

  • Patent number: 6470966
Abstract: A wellbore casing formed by extruding a tubular liner off of a mandrel. The tubular liner and mandrel are positioned within a new section of a wellbore with the tubular liner in an overlapping relationship with an existing casing. A hardenable fluidic material is injected into the new section of the wellbore below the level of the mandrel and into the annular region between the tubular liner and the new section of the wellbore. The inner and outer regions of the tubular liner are then fluidicly isolated. A non hardenable fluidic material is then injected into a portion of an interior region of the tubular liner to pressurize the portion of the interior region of the tubular liner below the mandrel. The tubular liner is then extruded off of the mandrel.

  • Patent number: 6450897
Abstract: The present invention provides an iron-type golf club head having a bridge member across a cavity on its rear surface, which member influences the trajectory of a golf ball struck by the club head. By altering the bridge member orientation across the cavity on the rear surface, the club head can be made to propel a ball in various directions. Thus, the trajectory of golf balls struck by the club head can be high, low, rightward, leftward, or combinations thereof.

  • Patent number: 6443174
Abstract: A fluid mass flow control apparatus, particularly adapted for use in controlling fluid flow to semiconductor fabrication processes, comprises a tubular body part having inlet and outlet fittings and a bore extending therethrough and supporting a valve seat in the bore. A closure member is connected to an arm which extends laterally through a tubular spigot portion of the body part. The body part has a reduced thickness wall at the spigot portion to allow elastic deflection of the wall and movement of the arm to control the position of the closure member. An elongated tube or rod actuator on which a resistance heating coil is supported is operably connected to a control system for heating the actuator to move the arm to control flow of fluid through the apparatus. A flow restrictor is mounted upstream of the valve seat and a mass flow sensor is in communication with the passage to provide a mass flow rate signal to the control system.

  • Patent number: 6401140
Abstract: A computer systems implemented with I2O devices having no Option ROM associated therewith needs to boot an OS from such an I2O device without restricting the arrangement of the system BIOS boot sequence. A Virtual Option ROM is integrated into the system BIOS boot sequence code so that the BIOS can detect an I2O device, and then get instructions from the Virtual Option ROM to initialize an I2O Platform of an I2O subsystem, wherein the I2O device resides. Once the communication between the I2O subsystem and the BIOS is subsequently achieved, the OS can be booted from the I2O device. Further, by implementing the Virtual ROM, an I2O device having no real Option ROM attached thereto can also be identified and used as a system boot device in a selective boot process. The initialization process of an IOP is skipped if a non-I2O bootable device has been found before the detection of an I2O device during the Power On Self Test.

  • Patent number: 6359780
Abstract: A computer system including an enclosure having a face with an opening formed therein. A door is pivotally mounted on the enclosure adjacent to the opening for being moved between an open position and a closed position with respect to the opening. A removable heat generating component is mounted in the enclosure adjacent to the opening and a heat extraction member is attached to the door. A remote heat dissipating body is mounted in the enclosure. A heat routing member is attached at a first end to the heat extraction member and at a second end to the heat dissipating body. The heat extraction member engages a surface of the heat generating device when the door is in the closed position. The removable heat generating component can be cooled using the heat routing member and the remotely located heat dissipating body while still permitting the heat generating component to be readily accessed through the opening in the enclosure.

  • Patent number: 6351375
Abstract: Method and apparatus is described herein for accommodating two types of hard disks, for example, SCSI disks and FC-AL disks, using a single, dual-purpose backplane. The dual-purpose backplane includes a plurality of drive bays each including a first connector for receiving a complementary connector of an SCSI disk and a second connector for receiving a complementary connector of an FC-AL disk. In a computer system, one or the other of the first and second connectors is mounted upside down to avoid overlapping and structural interference with connection of other hard disks to the backplane. In an external storage system, hard disks are inserted sideways, and thus one connector type is mounted on the backplane in an orientation rotated 180 degrees from the other connector type.
