  • Patent number: 8282120
Abstract: A stroller includes laterally spaced apart hubs that interconnect upper, middle and front frame member assemblies of a chassis of the stroller. The hubs are disposed one each along opposite sides of the stroller, and include mounting structures for coupling two or more of the strollers together in a side-by-side fashion. The hubs further include other mounting structures for mounting a seat assembly to the stroller chassis and for supporting both rearward facing and frontward facing orientation of the seat assembly as well as selectable inclination positions. Each of the hubs includes a folding mechanism for supporting folding of the stroller, such as for transport in a vehicle or for storage. Other laterally spaced apart hubs are provided along the upper frame members for providing a second point of attachment between two coupled strollers and for mounting of accessories.

  • Patent number: 8008011
Abstract: An A-to-T single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) identified at position ?134 relative to the ATG start codon, in the Pro-Melanin-Concentrating Hormone (PMCH) gene of Bos taurus and Bos indicus animals of both British and Continental type, is associated with changes in the average fat and grade fat. The A allele occurred in 67% of cattle examined and was associated with higher average fat and grade fat levels. The cattle industry may make use of these findings to genetically select for, and/or sort, cattle using this SNP.

  • Patent number: 7993882
Abstract: The present invention provides for selection of bovine animals that will display phenotypes associated with increased rates of growth. These phenotypes include hot carcass weight, average daily gain, shipping weight, end of test rib eye area, and adjusted weaning weight which is a measure of post-natal growth, based on the knowledge of their CRH, POMC and MC4R genotypes. The predictive value comes from the discovery that certain single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in these genes are linked to higher growth rate phenotypes. Specifically, the phenotypes that correlated with specific SNP's are end-of-test rib-eye area, adjusted weaning weight, average daily gain, shipping weight and hot carcass weight. The invention further provides for methods of screening bovines to predict which animals will have higher growth rate, allowing producers to selectively breed and manage animals based on desired characteristics, thereby maximizing productivity and profitability in commercial meat production operations.

  • Patent number: 7888459
Abstract: It has been discovered that facile glycation of proteins can be achieved by colyophilization of a protein with a reducing sugar, subjecting the lyophilized mixture to a vacuum (10 to 50 millitor) and incubating at an elevated temperature (50 to 100° C.) for 1 to 24 h. A stable ketoamine derivative is formed with amino groups in the protein and no advanced glycation end products (browning reaction) are observed, as is the case with aqueous glycation procedures. Another novel feature is that the in vacuo glycation reaction takes place with the protonated amine and not the deprotonated amine as is believed to be the case for aqueous glycation reactions. Advantage can be taken of the in vacuo glycation reaction to achieve facile covalent cross-linking of proteins by lyophilizing protein or proteins with compounds containing two or more reducing sugars separated by a linker.

  • Patent number: 7881507
Abstract: An apparatus for input and fingerprint recognition comprises a touch surface, a processor coupled to the touch surface, and instructions stored on the apparatus. The touch surface comprises a first region and a second region. The first region has a first sensor resolution, and the second region has a second sensor resolution that is greater than the first sensor resolution. The instructions configure the processor to selectively operate the touch surface in one of a touch input mode and a fingerprint mode. In the touch input mode, the processor detects a touch input anywhere on the touch surface by sampling the first and second regions at the first sensor resolution. In the fingerprint mode, the processor reads a fingerprint on the second region by sampling the second region at the second sensor resolution.

  • Patent number: 7664497
Abstract: A method of timer-based registration prevents timer-based registrations that are not needed from being sent. A history is maintained of time instances of implicit registrations transmitted by a mobile station over a communications network. If an elapsed time between a pair of successive ones of the time instances in the history is not less than a registration period with the network, a timer-based registration of the mobile station with the communications network is initiated after the expiry of a random time value less than the registration period. Otherwise, a timer-based registration is initiated after the expiry of a time period equal to the registration period.

  • Patent number: 7646897
Abstract: An apparatus for input and fingerprint recognition comprises a touch surface, and a data processor coupled to the touch surface. The touch surface comprises a first region and a second region. The second region is distinct from and coplanar with the first region and occupies a minor portion of a total surface area of the touch surface. The data processor is configured to selectively operate the touch surface in a touch input mode or a fingerprint detection mode. In the touch input mode, the data processor is configured to operate the second region at a first resolution comparable to that of the first region to detect a touch input anywhere on the touch surface. In the fingerprint detection mode, the data processor is configured to operate the second region at a higher resolution than the first resolution to detect a fingerprint on the second region.

  • Patent number: 7526406
Abstract: A method of estimating an electrical characteristic of an electrical signal involves allocating measurements amongst numerically sequential primary partitions. Each measurement is associated with a characteristic of an electrical signal. Each primary partition has a respective primary numerical range, and the value of each measurement is numerically within one of the primary numerical ranges. The measurements associated with one of the primary partitions are then allocated amongst numerically sequential secondary partitions. One of the measurements that is associated with the one primary partition has a desired rank. The secondary partitions are disposed numerically within the primary numerical range of the one primary partition. Each secondary partition has a respective secondary numerical range, and the value of each measurement that is associated with each secondary partition is within one of the secondary numerical ranges.
