Patent number: 4437711Abstract: A plurality of movable storage units each have a reversible motor for driving them in the proper direction in response to a user command to open an aisle between selected units. There is a microprocessor-based programmable control module on each unit and there is a structurally similar module that acts as a system controller. Four control lines interconnect the modules. One line is for sending digital command data away from the system controller and another is for sending sensing data toward the system controller. Another line is for resync pulses transmitted from the system controller to the microprocessors simultaneously. The processor in each module responds to a resync pulse by initiating definition of a specific number of time slots for containing individual high or low bits to enable serial transmission of encoded data representative of commands and sensed conditions.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 1982Date of Patent: March 20, 1984Assignee: Spacesaver CorporationInventor: Dean L. Patent number: 4432589Abstract: Mobile storage apparatus which includes a plurality of carriages carrying shelving which are movable on a track system to open up an isle to provide access to adjacent faces includes cantilevered light fixtures which are supported from the top of the units and which extend outwardly over adjacent units so that when units are separated to open an aisle the light fixture is located above the aisle to illuminate the storage faces of the shelving. Mounting brackets are positioned on the tops of the shelving so that the light fixture from one unit will not interfere with the mounting bracket on an adjacent unit when the units are closed.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 1981Date of Patent: February 21, 1984Assignee: Spacesaver CorporationInventor: John A. Patent number: 4425880Abstract: Internal combustion engine having a rotating closed cylinder housing mounted to a fixed frame and means to harness the rotation of the cylinder housing to rotate an output shaft. The cylinder housing contains a double ended piston to define two combustion chambers between the corresponding ends of the piston and the cylinder housing. Alternating combustion of fuel in the combustion chambers reciprocates the piston within the cylinder housing. A Scotch yoke mechanism linking the cylinder, piston, and frame harnesses the reciprocating motion of the piston within the cylinder housing to rotate the cylinder housing. In a preferred embodiment of the invention a second cylinder housing counterrotates about a common axis to cancel the spin angular momentum of the first housing and to double the power provided by the engine. The engine employs a two stroke combustion cycle in a preferred embodiment of the invention.Type: GrantFiled: July 16, 1981Date of Patent: January 17, 1984Inventor: Bertram J. Rochlus

Patent number: 4424767Abstract: An instant hot water dispenser has an upper plastic tank section connected to a lower brass tank section by a safety clamping arrangement which includes outturned tabs on the upper plastic tank section which interfit in notches in the brass lower tank section and a retainer ring located between the plastic tabs and outturned metal flanges on the brass tank section. An O-ring seal between the plastic upper tank and the brass tank provides a fluid seal. Various of the plumbing connections are integrally molded with the plastic top and expansion chamber cover which is separated from the main water tank by a common wall or partition. An aspirator opening in an integrally formed plastic stem in the expansion chamber cover aspirates water from the expansion chamber as incoming cold water passes the aspirator opening.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 1982Date of Patent: January 10, 1984Assignee: Emerson Electric CompanyInventors: Charles A. Patent number: 4424759Abstract: A gooseneck for rigidly but detachably attaching the boom of a sail-powered vehicle to the mast. The gooseneck includes a mast collar which in the unassembled condition is freely slideable over the mast. A boom yoke receives the forward ends of the boom spars. The yoke is vertically rotatable about a fulcrum provided in the mast collar. Co-operating surfaces in the collar and boom yoke lock the yoke to the collar and circumferentially compress the collar onto the mast as the boom is lowered to a horizontal attitude, thus firmly locking the mast collar, and the boom yoke carried thereby, to the mast.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 1983Date of Patent: January 10, 1984Assignee: Neodyne CorporationInventor: Dale M. Patent number: 4410324Abstract: A form fit disposable diaper has an absorbent pad folded intermediate the ends to provide increased absorbent material in the crotch and has water impervious side seal strips folded over the pad in the crotch to minimize leakage along the edges of the diaper and to prevent the absorbent pad from shifting. A quantity of water absorbent polymer is employed to enhance moisture absorbing capabilities. The side seal strips are desirably perforated to permit moisture strike through into the pad but prevent transfer of the polymer to the facing sheet and the skin of the diaper wearer.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 1981Date of Patent: October 18, 1983Inventor: Reinhardt N. Patent number: 4383417Abstract: A soft-serve freezer operates in a first mode, with both the auger and compressor operating, and a second energy saving mode in which only the refrigeration compressor operates. The control circuit monitors the power level to the auger to control the consistency of the mix. When the mix achieves a selected consistency, the auger discontinues its mixing function. Signal lights are provided to indicate when it is necessary to actuate the auger to obtain the desired consistency prior to dispensing the product and indicate that the mix has achieved the desired consistency.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 1981Date of Patent: May 17, 1983Assignee: Stoelting, Inc.Inventor: Tom N. Patent number: 4378785Abstract: Solar heating system employing a attic solar collector with a transparent wall facing the sun and a heat absorbing interior in order to heat the air within; a first heat pump to transmit heat from the collector to a remote storage reservoir; and a second heat pump to transfer heat either way between the reservoir and a living space to be heated or cooled. The heat input to the first heat pump is controlled by a damper actuated by excess pressure in the heat pump suction line to decrease air flow across the refrigerant coil of the first heat pump which collects the heat from the attic. A similar damper connected to a refrigerant line for the second heat pump similarly controls heat transfer between a refrigerant coil of the second heat pump and the air space to be heated. The dampers modulate the collection and transfer of heat by the heat pumps to maintain the heat pumps in efficient operating temperature and pressure ranges.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 1981Date of Patent: April 5, 1983Inventors: Dale Fleischmann, Marvin E. Blanton

Patent number: 4359702Abstract: Disclosed herein is a combination relay, suppression resistor and end of cycle bell in a compact unitary assembly intended for use in a microwave oven. The size of the relay is reduced by employing a bifurcated contact strip which has legs surrounding the relay coil pole piece and a contact actuator which is U-shaped to move within a plane which intersects the coil and bobbin. A plastic housing encloses these components and provides a support for the bell. The surge suppression resistor can be a few turns of magnet wire wrapped around the protective covering on the relay coil core.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 1980Date of Patent: November 16, 1982Inventor: Spencer C.
