  • Patent number: 4830887
Abstract: Method and apparatus for applying one or a plurality of superimposed layers of a photographic coating composition by the curtain coating method onto a moving support. The spacing between the edge guides, used to maintain the width of a curtain throughout its free fall from the coating hopper to the impingement line on the support, is arranged to coat less than the width of the support so as to provide an uncoated margin on the support. The curtain fluids are extracted from the edge region of the falling curtain by connecting a suction device to the edge guides near the point of impingement of the falling curtain, thus substantially reducing the thickness of the curtain at its edge region and thereby reducing the thickness of the coated edges.

  • Patent number: 4824564
Abstract: A liquid filter apparatus, for connection to inlet and outlet piping, includes a housing which is integral with the piping and a removable integral filter unit in the housing. The integral filter unit includes bottom and top end caps with a core tube and a concentric outer tube extending between the end caps. A filter element between the core tube and the outer tube stands on ribs extending upward from the bottom end cap and is spaced from the top end cap by similar ribs extending downward from the top end cap, these ribs creating radial flow channels above and below the filter element. The filter element is a wound spiral of filter material and separator forming a plurality of axial flow channels. Some of these axial flow channels are open at the top to receive liquid from the top radial flow channel and closed at the bottom, and some of the axial channels are closed at the top and open at the bottom to discharge liquid into the bottom radial flow channel.

  • Patent number: 4767531
Abstract: A retractor handle is attached to the retraction end of a core wound permeator or filter module for withdrawing the module form its containment housing without requiring special tools. The retraction handle can be a resin pull ring flexibly attached to a flange of a plug that closes the retraction end of the core of the permeator or filter module. The retraction handle can also be a wire pull ring having ends seated in sockets formed in a plugged end region of the core.

  • Patent number: 4639405
Abstract: This invention relates to a method and apparatus for fixing toner images in which a copy sheet bearing unfixed toner is first passed through a pair of heated fuser rollers and is subsequently passed through surfacing rollers to provide a gloss to the toner image. In order to prevent curling of the copy sheet and blistering of the glossed image, the copy sheet is passed through a conditioner means, located between the fuser rollers and the surfacing rollers, for removing a substantial portion of the moisture from the copy sheet.

  • Patent number: 4601569
Abstract: A cleaning apparatus includes a magnetic cleaning brush for removing residual toner from a photoconductor. A hollow rotating detoning roller electrostatically removes toner from the cleaning brush. The detoning roller has apertures in the surface thereof allowing toner to be mechanically swept by a skiving blade into the hollow portion of the detoning roller. A stationary auger transports the toner to one end of the roller where it may be vacuumed up.

  • Patent number: 4571071
Abstract: A cleaning apparatus and method for removing residual toner from a photoconductor in a color copier. The apparatus includes a magnetic brush for removing color toner particles from the photoconductor as the different color toner particles serially appear at the cleaning station. A detoning roller located proximate the magnetic brush has a portion thereof near the magnetic brush electrically biased to strip charged toner particles from the brush. A plurality of skiving blades serially operate on the detoning roller in accordance with the respective color of the toner particles to remove the particles from the roller. The portion of the detoning roller adjacent the skiving blades is electrically biased to repel the particles to facilitate their removal. Each of the skiving blades is associated with a respective collecting means for collecting color toner particles of a respective color.
