Patent number: 4648160Abstract: A closure assembly useful as a means for sealing a pressurized package which includes clamping means shiftable between an open position to receive an open portion of the pressurized package and a closed position to substantially hermetically seal the open portion of the pressurized package. The assembly also includes a retaining means coupled to the clamped means and adapted to be actuated by a force substantially independent of the force associated with the pressurized package whereupon the actuating force will maintain the clamping means in the closed position. Another part of the present closure assembly is an actuation means which is engageable with the retaining means in a manner which supplies the force enabling the retaining means to keep the clamping means in the closed position.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 1985Date of Patent: March 10, 1987Assignee: East/West IndustriesInventors: Dominic J. Spinosa, Frank Knoll

Patent number: 4640785Abstract: This invention is directed to means for inhibiting the apparent shift in the buoyant density of and/or to restore any loss in the buoyant density of the granulocytic white blood cells in a sample of blood, thereby insuring the quality of the separation of lymphocytes and monocytes from granulocytes in a blood sample. The invention comprises contacting a blood sample with a hypertonic fluid containing a low molecular weight organic or inorganic ionic substance and/or with an isotonic or hypertonic fluid containing a high molecular weight organic substance which may contain organic molecules having a lipophilic substituent in their structures and/or with a culture medium for blood cells. An integral part of the invention is an improved blood separation tube utilizing a gel-like substance having a specific gravity between 1.060-1.065 g/cm.sup.3 to significantly enhance the purity of cell separation, while providing acceptable cell yields.Type: GrantFiled: December 24, 1984Date of Patent: February 3, 1987Assignee: Becton Dickinson and CompanyInventors: Richard J. Carroll, Albert A. Luderer, Ward C. Smith, Anthony R. Zine, Jr.

Patent number: 4616376Abstract: The invention relates to a means for cleaning a blade of a window glass wiper of a vehicle. The means comprises at least one wiping edge (6) provided on the outer surface of the glass (2) within the area of motion of the wiper blade (6), whereby the blade (3) slides across the wiping edge when the wiper is on operation. The wiping edge (6) is formed by an edge of a groove provided on the surface of the glass (2). In order to reduce the striking forces acting on the drive mechanism of the wiper and to diminish wearing of the blade itself, the bottom of the groove (11) is provided with a ridge (5) extending longitudinally with respect to the groove essentially in the middle thereof. The upper edge of the ridge is rounded and has a lower position than the outer surface of the glass (2).Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 1985Date of Patent: October 14, 1986Assignee: Turvaura OYInventor: Mikko Paretskoi
