    Abstract: The process for producing anodes on fixtures comprises the following steps. A stringer with risers of film forming metal welded at right angles to the stringer is lowered into row of cavities in an elastomeric mold which have been filled with a slurry including a freezable bonding agent and film-forming metal powder. The risers are centered in the cavities. The powder slurry is frozen with the risers held in registration with the mold pattern. After solidification of the slurry the stringer is withdrawn and the frozen anodes are pulled out of the mold cavities. Predrying preferably with the risers in place prior to freezing removes excess water so that the anodes after thawing will retain their shape and have sufficient strength to withstand the limited handling necessary to transfer them to the sintering equipment.

    Abstract: The disclosure relates to an electrical component with low impedance over a range of high frequency input signals. The electrical component comprises a dielectric film-forming metal anode with an anode lead projecting from the anode, electrolyte contacting the surfaces of the anode to form a body, and a cathode lead contacting the body and substantially parallel to the plane of the anode lead. Preferably, the length of the anode lead and the cathode lead are a minimum as well as is the distance between the anode lead and the cathode lead in order to help reduce the impedance of the electrical component over a range of high frequency input signals. Surfaces of the body are at an angle with respect to each other. The cathode lead includes an elongated strip of electrically conducting material projecting from the body and a surface of the strip is joined to one or more of the surfaces of the body at an angle with respect to each other.

    Abstract: A protective layer containing polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is provided over the riser of an anode having a porous film-forming metal anode body to render the riser non-wetting to a solution of manganese nitrate and thereby help prevent the formation of MnO.sub.2 on the riser during the subsequent pyrolysis step in the process of making a capacitor. The protective layer also helps to prevent mechanical damage to the anode during assembly of the capacitor. The protective layer over the anode riser may be applied by means such as dipping a wetted anode in a suspension containing particulate PTFE or by masking the anode body with a liquid and then spraying the riser with binderless material containing PTFE. The preferred embodiment employs high pressure spraying of the material containing PTFE over the anode riser.

The thin film is capable of causing modification of selected properties of the surface related to shaping of metal containing materials.
