  • Patent number: 8083967
Abstract: A water-insoluble liquid crystalline gel composed mainly of a water-soluble polymer, itself having a gelation function together with a liquid crystal formation function and having an optical property is produced. First, the water-soluble polymer is dissolved in water or an aqueous solution containing a salt(s) to prepare a polymer solution. Subsequently, this polymer solution is dialyzed in an aqueous solution containing a chemical crosslinking agent, thereby obtaining the gel having a liquid crystal structure and composed mainly of the water-soluble polymer. Said water soluble polymer is one or two or more polymers selected from the group consisting of water-soluble biopolymers, derivatives of these water-soluble biopolymers and water-soluble synthesized polymers. The water-soluble biopolymers are one or two or more polymers selected from the group consisting of nucleic acids, polysaccharides, proteins, modified proteins and polyamino acids.

  • Patent number: 8081939
Abstract: A frequency-control unit is used for controlling an external controllable reference-frequency source. The frequency-control unit includes a filter unit with a controllable filter parameter, which is configured to derive, using the filter parameter, from a frequency-error signal a frequency-control signal for minimizing the frequency error of the reference frequency; and a correlation unit, which is configured to determine from frequency errors of the reference frequency at different points in time a correlation measure indicative of a correlation between the frequency errors at the different points in time. The frequency-control unit is configured to adapt the controllable filter parameter of the filter unit in dependence on the determined correlation measure. The value of the filter parameter can depend also on a receiver path strength, such as an RSCP value.

  • Patent number: 8074976
Abstract: In an image forming device, images of originals up to an upper limit number of stapling are read (S1 to S5) and image data thereof are processed (S6 to S8). If a paper sensor has detected a subsequent original even when the number of pages of the read images reaches NS0 (S1, S2), a finisher discharges a bundle of printed papers without stapling. Consequently, the number of the printed papers included in the discharged bundle is made less than the upper limit number. In a case where the number of the printed papers sent to the finisher (S12, S13) is less than a set number NS1 (S15), the bundle is discharged without being stapled after the number of the printed papers reaches NS1 (S17).

  • Patent number: 8073950
Abstract: The invention provides a system and method for automated data analysis in which data agents are located and operate at each member site or data source (i.e., locally). These agents access stored data at the data source or member sites, process the data and also aggregate the results. The aggregated results from each of the member sites are then forwarded to and further aggregated at a central analytic hub. The central analytic hub contains a centralized application which can further aggregate each of the aggregated results and perform a final analysis. These results are then delivered to the requester without any ability to identify individual data sources, or records from those sources.

  • Patent number: 8055973
Abstract: An interleaver is constructed based on the joint constraints imposed in the channel and the code domains. A sequentially optimal algorithm is used for mapping bits in the inter-symbol interference (ISI) domain to the code domain by taking into account the ISI memory depth and the connectivity of the nodes within the parity check matrix. Primary design constraints are considered such as the parallelism factor so that the proposed system is hardware compliant in meeting high throughput requirements.

  • Patent number: 8048000
Abstract: A device for correlating trend data with respect to a patient's weight ankle displacement can identify conditions indicative of congestive heart failure. A weight scale or similar device coupled with imaging mechanism operable to measure ankle displacement collects a plurality of measurements over a period of time. Over time trend analysis of both the patient's weight and the ankle displacement measurements can be obtained and compared to identify whether over a particular sample period an increase in a patient's ankle displacement is or is not correlated with an increase in the patient's weight. When an increase in ankle displacement is identified as not correlating to a corresponding change in the patient's weight an alert can be issued of conditions indicative of congestive heart failure.
