  • Patent number: 6203194
Abstract: The invention is directed to a thermopile sensor and in particular to a radiation thermometer or a motion detector with a thermopile sensor. The thermopile sensor includes a thermopile supported in a housing. The thermal capacity of the cold and hot junctions of the thermopile including its supporting structure and the thermal conductivity of the supporting structure are mutually coordinated such that a change in the housing's temperature produces a change of equal magnitude in the cold and hot junctions' temperature, that is, no temperature gradients occur within the thermopile.

  • Patent number: 6195581
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method of evaluating the signal of an infrared thermometer for measuring human body temperature, in which the infrared thermometer includes a probe adapted to receive thereon a probe cover or protective film sufficiently transparent to infrared radiation, and in which on a measuring operation performed with the probe cover or protective film in “installed” condition the signal is evaluated, so that a measuring operation is performed also when the probe cover or protective film is not installed, with an appropriate allowance being made for the consequently more intensive infrared radiation by different signal evaluation.

  • Patent number: 6187120
Abstract: A mixture of flat soft magnetic powder and an organic binding agent is rolled by mutually confronting of rolls so as to produce a composite magnetic sheet excellent in electromagnetic wave absorption characteristic. A plurality of the composite magnetic sheets are stacked by forming groove surfaces on each of said plurality of sheets and rolled to a desired thickness. By sandwiching a conductive mesh metal layer between two of said composite magnetic sheets and joining them by applying rolling pressure thereto, a mechanically strong electromagnetic interference suppressing sheet can be easily obtained. In order to reduce reflection and transmittance of electromagnetic waves of the composite magnetic sheet, embossing is applied to obverse and reverse surfaces of the composite magnetic sheet.

  • Patent number: 6183414
Abstract: A technique for overcoming male impotence when this condition is due to a loss of plasticity in the tissues of the male organ, making it incapable of achieving and maintaining an erectile state. To practice this technique, the male organ to be treated is engaged by an erectile enhancement device which in the course of each operating cycle compels the organ to change from a flaccid to an erectile state and then revert to the flaccid state. The device is programmed to repeat this operating cycle a predetermined number of times during an exercise session that subjects the male organ to a workout that enhances the plasticity of the tissues. Impotence is overcome when the individual completes a series of such exercise sessions.

  • Patent number: 6181814
Abstract: A system and method for detecting and thus preventing check fraud utilizing a digital computer with image capture and interpretation systems. The system converts the payee information, issue date and the MICR line information (account number, check number and dollar amount) to a check digit which is then placed into the MICR line of a check, printed on its face or transmitted via the paid issuance file to the drawee bank. The drawee bank, upon presentment utilizes a transformation algorithm to convert the printed payee information and issue date on the check into a numerical value that is combined with MICR line information and a check digit is calculated based upon pre-agreed logic. This unique data processing system quickly confirms properly presented checks while effectively precludes payee and other alterations in a cost effective manner.

  • Patent number: 6164863
Abstract: A locking arrangement for releasably securing a first member to a second member is provided in which a surface of the first member has anchors projecting therefrom with a lip portion of each anchor transversely extending from an extremity of each anchor. A surface of the second member has a cutout portion defining an opening adapted to lockingly engage an anchor. At least a portion of the cutout has a tongue at the opening thereof shaped to be positioned underneath the lip portion of an anchor to effect locking engagement thereof. During use, a surface of each of the first and second members is arranged by positioning the cutout portion on the anchor following which one member is rotated relative to the other member to thereby effect engagement of the tongue underneath the lip portion. A keeper is then inserted in at least a part of the cutout not occupied by an anchor to releasably secure the first member to the second member, wherein movement between the members is inhibited.

  • Patent number: 6152595
Abstract: The invention is directed to a probe tip (10) for a radiation thermometer in which the infrared radiation to be measured is directed through a waveguide device (12) to a radiation sensor (14) that converts the incident radiation into an electrical output signal from which the target temperature is determined by means of a downstream electronic measurement circuitry. To reduce temperature gradients in the sensor (14), the invention provides for the sensor housing (16) to be thermally coupled to the waveguide device (12) via a thermal coupling arrangement (24, 28, 30), such that the waveguide device is in direct thermal contact with the side of the sensor housing (16) close to the radiation and the opposite side thereof via the thermal coupling arrangement (24, 28, 30). Preferably, the thermal coupling arrangement (24, 28, 30) which is made of a material conducting heat well has substantially its entire surface area in abutting engagement with the corresponding sides of the sensor housing (16).

  • Patent number: 6149679
Abstract: A non-invasive therapeutic technique for treating neuro-cerebral disorders such as multiple sclerosis that are characterized by internal lesions in brain tissue. In this technique, directed toward an external site on the body of the subject to be treated adjacent the internal lesions is a pulsatory corona discharge beam which impinges on the site and bombards the lesions with ions to alleviate the disorder. The beam is produced by an energy-generating unit in which a radio-frequency carrier is modulated by an audio frequency signal that is chopped into pulses. In the course of an operating period having a brief duration, such as one minute, the pulses have a progressively stepped up repetition rate, resulting in corresponding bursts of radio-frequency energy. The bursts of energy yielded by the unit are applied to the discharge electrode of an applicator from which the corona discharge beam is projected toward the site.

  • Patent number: 6149298
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method of computing the radiation temperature of a body from the signals of a radiation and an ambient temperature sensor, and further to a radiation thermometer, in particular a clinical radiation thermometer. In the method of the present invention, computation of the temperature is not using the Stefan Boltzmann law, but rather, a polynomial is used, preferably a third-degree polynomial, which is adjusted to the radiation-optical properties of the thermometer in the relevant wavelength range. The reciprocal value of the sensitivity of the radiation sensor is preferably represented as a polynomial as well. In this manner, the computation of a fourth root or divisions which are otherwise customary are avoided, enabling the necessary computations to be also performed, for example, by a 4-bit microprocessor with great speed.

  • Patent number: 6149337
Abstract: A ball and socket bearing assembly adapted to receive the vertical post of a rudder installed in the stern of a boat. The assembly consists of a molded journal box having a spheroidal cavity therein defining a socket in which is nested a ball-like bearing formed of UHMW polyethylene or of a material having similar non-stick properties, the post passing through an axial bore in the bearing. The assembly is produced by placing the preformed bearing in a mold to create an annular space between the bearing and the inner wall of the mold. This space is then flooded with a curable liquid resin monomer whereby when the monomer is polymerized and rigidified, it does not bond to the non-stick bearing. The bearing is therefore free to rotate in the cavity and align itself with the rudder post regardless of the degree to which the post deviates from the vertical as a result of hydrodynamic or other forces imposed on the rudder.
