Abstract: Techniques for communicating between an embedded device and remote database(s) for a wide variety of applications, including human machine interface, supervisory control, data acquisition, and B2B applications. An application program interface (API), interfacing an application program seeking access to a predetermined database, operates on an operating system (OS) not operating a database driver program. A parser translates communications with the API into and from commands and formatted data of an OS independent form. A protocol stack formats the commands and formatted data into header formatted communications signals to accord with a predetermined protocol. Another protocol stack receives the header formatted communications signals, removes header data, and generates database communications signals. Another parser receives the database communications signals and generates and communicates a plurality of database formatted SQL commands.

Abstract: A methodology and apparatus for cutting shape(s) or profile(s) through well tubular(s), or for completely circumferentially severing through multiple tubulars, including all tubing, pipe, casing, liners, cement, other material encountered in tubular annuli. This rigless apparatus utilizes a computer-controlled, downhole robotic three-axis rotary mill to effectively generate a shape(s) or profile(s) through, or to completely sever in a 360 degree horizontal plane wells with multiple, nested strings of tubulars whether the tubulars are concentrically aligned or eccentrically aligned. This is useful for well abandonment and decommissioning where complete severance is necessitated and explosives are prohibited, or in situations requiring a precise window or other shape to be cut through a single tubular or plurality of tubulars.

Abstract: A Schottky contact photovoltaic energy conversion cell. The Schottky contact photovoltaic energy conversion cell comprises a flexible substrate and a first array of a plurality of closely-spaced microscale pillars connected to a first electrical cell contact. The pillars and the contact are formed of (or having a top) layer of a first Schottky metal material with a work function selected for efficiently collecting photogenerated electrons. The Schottky contact photovoltaic energy conversion cell further comprises a second array of a plurality of closely-spaced microscale pillars connected to a second electrical cell contact. The pillars and the contact are formed of (or having a top) layer of a second Schottky metal material with a work function selected for efficiently collecting photogenerated holes.
Abstract: A modular spacecraft incorporating a launch vehicle interface design that also functions as a berthing or docking interface for the spacecraft. The vehicle interface utilizes existing launch vehicle components to minimize cost and time to flight. In addition, the spacecraft is constructed from off-the-shelf launch vehicle components that enable a low cost construction as well as a secondary payload carrying functionality.
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for cooling bearings or other objects. Such cooling may be accomplished by expanding a compressed gas in a cooling channel surrounding a bearing and allowing the expanded air to come into direct contact with the bearing. Expanding a compressed gas in local proximity of the bearing takes advantage of the Joule-Thompson expansion of gas, resulting in a substantial drop in gas temperature, thereby maximizing the cooling potential of the gas being directly applied to the bearing. Cooling bearings in this manner extends their operational life and enables them to operate at the desired speeds. A housing may be provided for receiving a compressed gas, expanding the compressed gas to a predetermined pressure, enabling the expanded gas to directly contact the bearing, and exhausting the expanded gas.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to transient energy systems for supplying power to a load substantially instantaneously on demand. Transient energy systems may include a flywheel coupled the rotor of an induction motor generator. One embodiment of the disclosure refers to systems and methods for reducing loads on a bearing in a transient energy system. In another embodiment, the disclosure refers to an induction motor generator that is optimized for high power transient power generation, yet low power motor operation. Yet another embodiment of the disclosure refers to using a flywheel as a drag pump to cool components of a transient energy system. In yet another embodiment, a slip control scheme is discussed for regulating a DC bus. In yet a further embodiment of the disclosure a method is provided for reducing unnecessary turbine starts by making turbine start a function of the rotational velocity of a flywheel.
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to methods and apparatuses for fracturing or breaking a buried porous semiconductor layer to separate a 3-D thin-film semiconductor semiconductor (TFSS) substrate from a 3-D crystalline semiconductor template. The method involves forming a sacrificial porous semiconductor layer on the 3-D features of the template. A variety of techniques may be used to fracture and release the mechanically weak porous semiconductor layer without damaging the TFSS substrate layer or the template layer such as pressure variations, thermal stress generation, and mechanical bending. The methods also allow for processing three dimensional features not possible with current separation processes. Optional cleaning and final lift-off steps may be performed as part of the release step or after the release step.
Abstract: A method for providing a compact rotary action torque within a larger system comprising a cross-roller bearing, generating a controllable electromagnetic field using a motor stator while interfacing the cross-roller bearing using a bull gear. The bull gear interfaces the cross-roller bearing and includes gear-teeth. An output plate includes a ring gear and supports shaft bearings. The ring gear interfaces the output plate and includes gear-teeth. A drive shaft holds a prime mover rotor and an eccentric and associates with the output plate via the shaft bearings. A gear train includes a meshing gear having gear-teeth for meshing with the gear-teeth of the bull gear and the gear-teeth of the ring gear and walks a minimal number of the gear-teeth for each rotation of the prime mover rotor; thereby, providing a transmitting force from the prime mover along the shortest-possible transmission path.
Abstract: A system (10) for controlling telecommunications calls includes a voice XML network gateway (12) including a voice interpreter module (20) and a call center server module (28) association with a telecommunications switch (58). The voice interpreter module (20) receives voice telecommunications signals, and the call center server module (28) receives call center telecommunications data signals. Interpreting circuitry (22, 24) interprets the voice telecommunications signals using the voice interpreter module in association speech recognition application (s) (16). Call center service providing (18) means provides call center service in response to the call center telecommunications data signals in association with call center application program(s).
