  • Patent number: 7775659
Abstract: A polarized tinted lens for sunglasses includes a first polarizing tinting member and a second tinting member. The first polarizing tinting member is capable of reducing the transmission of glare through the lens. The second tinting member at least partially overlays the first tinting member so that light passing through the lens in the portion where the first and second tinting members are overlain must pass through both the first and second tinting members. Preferably the sunglasses created thereby are polarized sunglasses with two tints in one lens. The user can adjust the tint though which he sees by tilting his head or adjusting the angle of his eyes.

  • Patent number: 7695676
Abstract: A meter and test wand system is capable of cooperatively processing an analysis fluid and communicating results to a user. The system includes a meter case including a case front, a case back, a case top, a case bottom, a first case side member, and a second case side member. The first and second case side members connect the case front to case back. The first case side member has a longitudinal dimension between said case top and said case bottom and a latitudinal dimension between said case front and said case back. The first case side member includes a first case ridge; A test wand is capable of receiving an analysis fluid, and includes a cartridge including a cartridge ridge. The cartridge ridge is sized and shaped to matingly engage with said first case ridge to connect said test wand to said meter case.

  • Patent number: 7651681
Abstract: Methods and compositions for forming protective and/or medicated films on body tissue. Liquid compositions contain a hydrophobically modified polymer, other than an esterified lower-hydroxyalkyl-substituted cellulose, suspended or dissolved in a solvent. The modified polymer is soluble in the solvent but insoluble in body fluids. The compositions may optionally contain a separate medicinal component, i.e., one which is present in addition to any medications, if any, present in the solvent, in the modified polymer and in any other additive components such as flavors, skin penetrants, preservatives, other solvents for the additives, etc. A protective and/or medicated film is formed in situ upon body tissue by applying the liquid composition to the tissue and separating the solvent from the composition, e.g., by vaporization.

  • Patent number: 7650194
Abstract: An intra-cochlear implant is provided for aiding in the hearing of a patient. The implant includes a body portion implantable within an interior of a cochlea of a patient. The body portion has a proximal end, a distal end and a primary axis. A plurality of signal carrying electrodes extends along the body portion. The electrodes have proximal ends and distal ends, with the proximal ends being capable of receiving a signal from a signal generator, and the distal ends being capable of delivering the received signal to an anatomical receptor within a cochlea. At least several of the plurality of electrodes have a nanoelectrode-sized portion. The implant also may include a fluid delivery system of tubules, reservoirs, and pumps for the delivery of chemicals and cells to activate regeneration of neural elements lost during the hearing loss process.

  • Patent number: 7469869
Abstract: A two-piece magnetic holder for holding a non-magnetic sheet onto a magnetically attractive surface includes an upper half and a lower half joined at a releasable hinge. The lower half is adapted for magnetic retention onto a magnetically attractive surface while the upper half selectively pivots relative to the lower half to allow gripping and releasing of an object from between portions of the upper and lower halves. A first magnet member is disposed in the lower half of the holder for magnetically coupling the two-piece holder to the magnetically attractive surface while a second magnet member is disposed in the upper half of the holder for magnetically coupling the first end of the upper half to the lower half. The upper half has a curvilinear body that defines a first end and a second end.

  • Patent number: 7448816
Abstract: A writing instrument includes a colorant dispensing tip and a barrel. The barrel has a proximal portion and a distal portion. The proximal portion includes a hand-engaging surface and a proximal end coupled to the colorant dispensing tip. The distal portion is unitarily formed with the proximal portion and includes a distal end. The distal end is joined to the proximal portion to form a display card receiving closed hoop. A display card is sized and configured for being received by the hoop.

  • Patent number: 7413262
Abstract: A hub for a human powered vehicle includes a rotation axis, a hub body formed generally symmetrically about the rotation axis, the hub body having a radially-outward-facing surface that includes a plurality of surface features for improving the aerodynamic efficiency of the hub as it passes through a fluid, and a wheel assembly attachment member formed along a circumference of the hub body, the wheel assembly attachment member being structured for attachment to one of a plurality of spokes and the center of a disc wheel. The surface features may include a series of depressions or a series of projections, and such features may have a dimple shape that can be formed in a variety of shapes including those with a cylindrical wall and a planar bottom or a hemispherical bottom. Alternately, such surface features may have a hemispherical shape.
