  • Patent number: 6411311
Abstract: A computer implemented method is described for enabling a user to transfer, via a graphical user interface, an item from one displayed window to another displayed window. Initially, a first window is displayed with an item to be moved and a second window is displayed with one or more destinations to which the item can be moved. Thereafter, the user selects the item to be moved, causing a further window to be displayed which includes one or more commands, one of which manifests a movement action. Upon selection of the movement command, the graphical interface displays a list of destinations with which the item to be moved can be associated by actuating the movement command. Thereafter, responding to a selection of one of the displayed destinations, the computer which operates the graphical view user interface associates the item being moved with the selected destination and alters the display so that at least one of the displayed windows manifests the movement action.

  • Patent number: 6345269
Abstract: A system and method that communicates with archive systems that use various query languages. The system includes an interpreter, which receives an inquiry in a non-archive-system-specific form, converts the inquiry into an archive-system-specific form or allocates it to an archive-system-specific form and executes the inquiry in a selected archive system. Processing of the search results, management of the interface with the archive system and the pertinent administrative work is undertaken by the interpreter. The knowledge required of a user regarding the individual archive systems is reduced to a minimum. The various interfaces of the interpreter make it possible to use source code for different archive systems with few modifications.

  • Patent number: 6292798
Abstract: The invention controls access to data resources by performing the steps of: providing (i) a first directory which relates data objects to object groups, each object group including all data objects having a common assigned security attribute; (ii) a second directory which relates functions to function groups, each function group including functions having a common execution attribute; (iii) a third directory which relates users to user groups, each user group including users having a common user attribute; and a permission directory which lists allowed combinations of (user group, function group, object group). In response to a request from a user to perform a function with respect to an object, the permission directory is examined to determine if the access request is to be allowed or not allowed.

  • Patent number: 6239800
Abstract: The invention leads a user through an application program procedure via interactions with displayed information. A method incorporating the invention first displays maps (i.e., flow charts) of tasks required to be accomplished during the application procedure. The maps include various graphical icons, each of which provides an indication of job execution status; job names that are associated with at least some of the graphical icons; and connectors between the job names which designate an execution relationship therebetween. During the application program procedure, the presentation of a graphical icon is modified to indicate a readiness of an associated job to execute. Thereafter, the user selects the associated job for execution by entering a selection signal. The graphical icon's presentation is modified to indicate completion of execution of the associated job and the presentations of one or more connectors are modified to indicate a completion of execution.

  • Patent number: 6184881
Abstract: The present invention provides a color background for an icon. As a user traverses related objects the color background is persistent throughout each of the related objects. In addition, iconic symbols present in the original icon will be retained through various stages of related object development. A graphical icon is also added to the related object which conveys the present status of a processing sequence. In Data Mining sequences a series of object development panels are created. Within panels of this series are the corresponding icon background colors, iconic symbols and a graphical icon. The specific graphical icon starts as a representation of a rough stone and ends as a polished diamond. The rough stone representing the starting point in the series and the polished diamond, the ending or completion of the series.
