  • Patent number: 4578648
Abstract: A circuit for automatically controlling the operation of a variable gain control circuit in an audio signal processing system by verifying whether gain change is desirable and then gating the operation of the gain control circuit is disclosed. A pair of operational amplifiers along with a set of four diodes produce two equal absolute value signals representing a full wave rectified version of the audio input signal. A first filter circuit processes one of the absolute value signals to produce a third signal corresponding to average signal amplitude. A second filter circuit processes the other absolute value signal to produce a fourth signal corresponding to an average of peak values. A comparator compares the third and fourth signals and produces an output signal which is used as the control signal for controlling the variable gain control circuit.

  • Patent number: 4528093
Abstract: An apparatus and method for purifying and dispensing water for use in a coin operated vending machine is disclosed. The apparatus includes a pair of filters where the preliminary filtering of raw water occurs, a reverse osmosis unit pump and a reverse osmosis unit where the main purification takes place. The permeate output of the reverse osmosis unit passes through a conductivity sensor. If the conductivity is below a predetermined level, the water is sent to a storage tank. If the water is above that level then it is sent back to the reverse osmosis unit pump for further processing by the reverse osmosis unit. Water is extracted from the storage tank by a continuously operating pump which transmits the water through an ultraviolet sterilizer. During a vend cycle the water passing through the ultraviolet sterilizer is dispensed while in the absence of a vend cycle the water passing through the ultraviolet sterilizer is passed back into the storage tank.

  • Patent number: 4490671
Abstract: An apparatus and method for determining the number of turns on a sample coil are disclosed. An alternating current of substantially constant amplitude is passed through a primary winding turn which is coupled to the sample coil and also through a primary winding turn which is coupled to a standard coil of known turns count, inducing currents in the sample coil and in the standard coil in inverse proportion to their respective turns counts. These induced currents are commutated into pulsating direct currents that are fed into a ratiometric current meter. This meter produces a measurement output corresponding to the ratio of the current induced in the standard coil to the current induced in the sample coil. This measurement output is displayed on a calibrated readout device as an indication of the number of turns on the sample coil. In addition, means are provided for indicating coil discontinuity and inverted coil phase.

  • Patent number: 4456956
Abstract: A computer network is disclosed in which a plurality of computer stations are interconnected by a single bi-directional bus and wherein access to the bus is controlled by the computer stations themselves through an adapter unit at each station. Each adapter unit includes a microcontroller, a transmitter, a receiver, a send buffer, a receive buffer, a line activity indicator, a pulse producing device, a read circuit and a write circuit. Each adapter unit has a unique assigned number. When the network is running and stable, control of the bus is continually passed from one live adapter unit to another in numerical sequence according to its unique assigned number and the bus is active with messages, control signals or status signals separated by relatively short intervals. If only one adapter unit is live, control is continually passed to itself.
