Abstract: A host on the World Wide Web acquires a variety of facilities as subscribers and then proceeds to undertake control of the printing of images captured at the various subscribing facilities. A user is enabled to select the quality of image content captured by a digital camera. An implementation for capturing said image content at a facility controlled by a facility host includes a user computer station connected to said Web, apparatus for printing the captured image content associated with the user computer station, the user is enabled to select a level of image print quality for said captured image, the user computer station controlling the printing is connected to the remote facility host and a control implementation enables the facility host to permit said printing means to print the captured image at the user selected image print quality.

Abstract: Distributing a thread for running on a physical processor and enabling the physical processor to be switched into a low power snooze state when said running thread is IDLE. However, this switching into said low power state is enabled to be delayed by a delay time from an IDLE dispatch from said running thread; such delay is determined by tracking the rate of the number of said IDLE dispatches per processor clock interval and dynamically varying said delay time wherein the delay time is decreased when said rate of IDLE dispatches increases and the delay time is increased when said rate of IDLE dispatches decreases.

Abstract: Controlling the audio-visual recording by audio-visual recording devices within a facility comprising the host or owner of the facility predetermining a plurality of value levels of at least one attribute of said audio-visual content and predetermining a plurality of limitations on the recording of audio-visual content, each corresponding to each of the value levels. There is sensing the value level of said at least one attribute and limiting the recording of said audio-visual content based upon the value level of the one attribute.

Abstract: Multi-sorting of displayed columns representative of a tabular display is carried out by displaying a table of a plurality of columns, selectively displaying a first radial menu having a plurality of sectors, each sector representative of one of the plurality of columns, enabling a user to select one of the sectors, and responsive to a user selection of a sector for displaying a second radial menu of the plurality of sectors wherein the selected one sector is disabled, e.g. eliminated. This is continued through a sequence of subsequent radial menus until the user has selected the intended set of sequential columns for the multiple sorting.

Abstract: A computer controlled system for managing traffic signals at the intersection of at least two traffic lanes to avoid collisions between motor vehicles in intersecting lanes. An implementation with means for controlling traffic signals at the intersection to permit vehicles in each of the intersecting traffic lanes a time period to pass through the intersection, means for detecting the presence of a vehicle in the intersection beyond said permitted time period, and means responsive to a detection of the presence of the vehicle, for controlling the traffic signals to stop other vehicles from passing through the intersection.

An entitled price repository independent of the above-described indirect channel distribution system is associated with this entitled price repository for tracking a plurality of price affecting factors selected from a group of such factors comprising the host negotiated prices, the above-described modified prices, and the specific purchase transaction prices. The entitled price repository correlates all of these price affecting factors to produce a most favored price for the customer/purchaser.

Abstract: The creator or author of the Web document or page at the Web site source of the page is enabled to prioritize all of the hyperlinks to other Web documents embedded in the Web page in order to optimize the needs such as the business needs of the host. The prioritization is applied in the determination of the order in which the Web documents linked to the activated embedded hyperlinks in the Web document are to be accessed. The system is implemented through the inclusion of a hypertext markup language tag associated with each of the prioritized hyperlinks indicative of the priority level of the associated hyperlink. The implementation for designating a priority level for each of the hyperlinks may be enabled to change any previously designated priority levels for said hyperlinks. Such changes in any previously designated priority levels could be made applicable to the priority levels in previously distributed copies of said Web document.

Abstract: Presenting to a user at a receiving Web station, who is viewing a received Web document or Web page, a very clear picture of which hyperlinks in each Web page are linked to a Web page/document that has already been bookmarked by the user. A system for tracking bookmarking in received Web documents that comprises the combination of apparatus associated with one of the receiving display stations for bookmarking of selected received Web documents to thereby store, as bookmarks, at the receiving display station, direct links to the sources of the Web documents, apparatus associated with this one receiving display station for comparing the stored bookmarks to hyperlinks in each received Web document to determine if the hyperlinks have been bookmarked, and an implementation which, in response to the apparatus for comparing, then visually distinguishes each bookmarked hyperlink in the received displayed Web document.

Abstract: Simplifying any cumbersome URLs that are made public. The function of converting to simplify cumbersome URLs is performed by Web service providers for appropriate fees. Accordingly, the converted URL will have a new domain portion, i.e. the Web service provider's domain along with a simplified path portion defining the path with the Web service provider's domain that will point to the original URL, stored within the service provider. Within the service provider, URLs of said accessed Web documents are converted to include a domain section specifying the service provider's domain and a path portion within said service provider's domain that is simpler than the original URL path portion. The path portion in the converted URL is usually shorter than the path portion in the original URL.

Abstract: An implementation for detecting interruptions in audio conversations between a plurality of participants comprising continuously recording the most recent predetermined time segment of the conversation stream of one participant in the conversation, monitoring the conversation stream of the participant for interruptions in said conversation stream and storing the most recent segment prior to the interruption in response to a detection of an interruption. The segment is represented by a conversation marker. The user may then select the conversation marker to playback this most recent segment, so that he may then decide whether he wishes to resume or pursue the interrupted conversation fragment.

Abstract: A consumer is provided with an implementation to personalize his compact optical recording discs. A compact optical recording disc comprising a primary section including a read-only permanent digital data recording, and an ancillary read-write section enabling a user to digitally record data to thereby personalize the recording disc to the needs of the user. The section including the read-only permanent digital recording is on a spiral track on said recording disc, and the read-write section is on a spiral track extension continuous with the continuous track. The read-only spiral track comprises a layer of sequential bumps defining the permanent digital data recording pattern, and the read-write spiral track extension comprises a smooth layer of laser beam sensitive material, the material reversibly darkens upon exposure to define the digital data recording pattern.

Abstract: The present invention is a system and method for handling location information. The goal of the present invention is to allow users to collect and evaluate information from multiple sources, and thus make proper use of all available location information. Location sources for the present invention include mobile electronic devices such as mobile telephones, cell phones, hand-held computers, personal digital assistants, pagers, Global Positioning System (GPS) devices, and other pervasive computing devices. Satellite-based or network-based positioning technologies make it possible to determine the geographic location of these wireless electronic devices and their users (e.g. location-based services for users of mobile telephones use such positioning technologies). Location sources for the present invention also include computer-based models, schedules or calendars that give a person's expected location depending on the date and time.

Abstract: Protecting data files from being stolen or compromised in a data processing operation having stored data in a plurality of data files by receiving user requests for access to data files, determining whether said requests are unauthorized intrusions into the requested data files and, responsive to a determination that a request is an unauthorized intrusion, changing the identification of the requested data files by renaming the files. Preferably, the rename should be one which does not identify the contents of the file, i.e. the rename disguises the file contents. Then, it is also desirable that the renamed file be moved to a new “hidden” directory. In such a case, the renamed file is also assigned a covert name which indicates a covert location in the new directory.
