Patent number: 4703388Abstract: A circuit arrangement for protecting the antilocking electrical system from overvoltages developed in the vehicle's electrical systems. Such overvoltages can be caused by a load dump and can lead to destruction of the vehicle's electrical system. To sense an overvoltage condition, a test circuit is provided which is connected to the vehicle's electrical system. The voltage test circuit provides an output signal when the voltage of the vehicle's electrical system exceeds a first threshold value. This output signal is used to switch the final stage of the antilocking electrical system. The overvoltage is thereby conducted directly to one or more low-resistance solenoid valves which limit the voltage in such a way that it no longer presents any danger to the vehicle's electrical system.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 1985Date of Patent: October 27, 1987Assignee: WABCO Westinghouse Fahrzeugbremsen GmbHInventor: Gerhard Ruhnau

Patent number: 4685653Abstract: A valve assembly having a valve seat, and a valve tappet that moves relative to the valve seat. A stop member for limiting the stroke of the valve tappet. The valve tappet includes an elongated shaft having a reduced mid-section for the purpose of increasing flexibility. The stop member for the valve tappet is a flexible ring-shaped element which functions like a spring washer. As a result of the shape of the valve tappet and of the stop member, any sudden excessive forces or stresses occurring during the opening and closing of the valve are partially suppressed by the elastic characteristics to avoid damage to the valve assembly. The energy-absorbing features avoid breakage of the shaft and eliminate deformation of the valve piston and the stop member in the area of the stop communicating surfaces, and also reduce damage to the sealing surfaces between the tappet head and the valve seat.Type: GrantFiled: November 26, 1985Date of Patent: August 11, 1987Assignee: WABCO Westinghouse Fahrzeugbremsen GmbHInventors: Wolfgang Kaltenthaler, Manfred Kramer, Heinz-Dieter Gelse

Patent number: 4679865Abstract: A relay valve device having a first control surface and a second control surface. A shut-off device is located in the line feeding the control pressure into the second control surface throughout the period in which a signal pressure is present, and connecting the second control surface to atmosphere at other times. Thus, the relay valve device releases a greater pressure into a load circuit when actuated during effectiveness of the signal pressure than while the signal pressure is not effective. The shut-off device having a pressure relief valve with a switch-off device so that when the signal pressure is effective, the switch-off device switches OFF the pressure relief function of the pressure relief valve and so that when the signal pressure is not effective, the pressure relief valve is opened as long as the control pressure remains below the relief pressure and is closed when the control pressure moves above the relief pressure.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 1986Date of Patent: July 14, 1987Assignee: WABCO Westinghouse Fahrzeugbremsen GmbHInventors: Helmut Ulrich, Peter Bartscher, Brian Shilton

Patent number: 4625841Abstract: A power-assisted transmission with a gear shift suppressing arrangement in which the transmission is controlled so that the gears can only be changed when the clutch is completely disengaged. An electrical sensor senses and measures the movement of the clutch. The sensor is connected to an electronic evaluating circuit which controls the selection and the engagement of the gears. The evaluating circuit causes the disengagement of an old gear and initiates a serch for a newly selected gear when the clutch is depressed approximately two-thirds (2/3) of its full stroke. When the full clutch stroke has been reached, the newly selected gear is completely engaged. If the clutch is reengaged before the engagement of the newly selected gear, the transmission is shifted to the neutral position.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 1983Date of Patent: December 2, 1986Assignee: WABCO Westinghouse Fahrzeugbremsen GmbHInventor: Alfred Klatt
