  • Patent number: 4747502
Abstract: A threaded thermoplastic closure suitable for fitment to a threaded container neck is disclosed. The closure is provided with one or more vent grooves cut through the primary threads in the inner wall of the closure skirt. The ends of each thread segment are rounded and a smaller reinforcing secondary thread within the groove extends across the groove connecting the thread segments. The lower edge portion of the secondary thread is aligned with the lower edge portion of the adjacent segments of the primary thread to maximize the venting space over the secondary thread.

  • Patent number: 4649777
Abstract: Back-up power tongs are provided, for holding a tubular member, such as a drill pipe, against rotation of a connected tubular member, the back-up tongs comprising a body, having a center opening of sufficient size for the tubular member to pass therethrough, a slot communicating between the edge of the body and the center opening, and a cavity disposed within the body. A plurality of jaw members are disposed within the body around the perimeter of the center opening, each jaw member having a concave surface generally conforming to the curvature of the tubular member and facing the interior of the opening so as to be grippingly engageable with the tubular member. At least one cylinder assembly is disposed within the cavity and fixedly connected to one jaw member so as to extend or retract the jaw member on a radial path centered at the center of the tubular member.

  • Patent number: 4638873
Abstract: A direction and angle maintenance tool and a method for using same are provided for drilling directionally oriented boreholes. The tool generally comprises a mandrel and a sleeve, which is rotatably attachable around the mandrel. The mandrel has a longitudinal bore and is attachable at its upper end to a rotary drill string and at its lower end to a rotary drill bit sub which is attached to a rotary drill bit. The sleeve has an eccentric longitudinal bore, forming a heavy, or weighted, side of the sleeve. A gauge insert is provided which is longitudinally attachable to the weighted side of the sleeve. By varying the size of the insert, the angle of deviation of a directionally drilled borehole may be maintained or adjusted. A self-adjusting blade may be added in order to aid in maintaining a desired angle of deviation or to induce a desired change of direction.

  • Patent number: 4626353
Abstract: A side skimmer provided in a channel containing flowing liquid includes a skimmer mechanism and a skimmer drain. The skimmer mechanism includes a fixed portion secured in a hinge-like manner to one side of the channel and aligned with an obstruction located partially across the channel width, and a movable wing-like portion extending above and below the liquid surface. This mechanism selectively deflects the flow into the drain, and is movable between a closed position, which allows free flow between the mechanism in the channel side and the obstruction, and an open position between the fixed portion and the obstruction, which directs flow to the skimmer drain. The skimmer drain is vertically movable between a closed position above the liquid surface, and an open position just below the surface whereby floating matter is removed.

  • Patent number: 4606681
Abstract: A device for rethreading and cleaning threaded pipe studs having an elongated casing having an outside surface provided with flat portions for attaching to a torquing means, which casing is provided with a straight channel therethrough shaped to allow passage of the pipe stud with at least a portion of the channel sidewalls having an inside diameter slightly larger than the outside diameter of the pipe studs, and having multiple threading dies attached to the channel sidewalls at one open end with the teeth protruding perpendicularly from the channel sidewalls, wherein the teeth on each threading die projects consecutively shallower into the channel as they progress from the open end.
