  • Patent number: 3999882
Abstract: The improved flushing and cooling system of this invention includes a pumping ring seal located at each end of the pump with the seal located adjacent to the discharge being in fluid communication with a pressure-reducing device in the pump. The pressure-reducing device is also connected by means of a bypass conduit with the seal located adjacent the pump inlet and with the pump inlet itself. A flow control orifice member is located adjacent the pressure-reducing device and is arranged to control flow from the by-pass conduit into and out of the pumping ring seal that is located adjacent the pump discharge. A second flow control orifice member is located adjacent the pump inlet and functions to control the flow into and out of the seal located adjacent the pump inlet. The arrangement of the system is such that the fluid passing through the pump is utilized to cool and flush both of the seals and to maintain the seals at substantially the same pressure.

  • Patent number: 3999426
Abstract: Described herein is an improved torque analyzing apparatus for indicating the torque transmitted by power tools. In addition to the housing, bearing supports and torque indicator or pointer, the apparatus includes a torque input shaft that is frictionally connected with a torsion or spiral spring through a resilient sleeve on the shaft. The torsion spring is connected to and transmits torque to a spring housing which is connected to a torsion bar. The torque indicator or pointer is mounted on the spring housing. The torsion spring or spiral spring permits several rotations of the torque input shaft and provides a gradual increase in the torque that is applied to the torsion bar.

  • Patent number: 3983607
Abstract: The safety hook disclosed herein includes a hook body that is comprised of a general cylindrical shank and a curved bill that defines a hook throat and terminates in a bill tip. An L-shaped latch member is arranged to close the hook opening and to be latched into closed position due to its engagement with the hook body and with the bill tip. Opening of the hook to receive the load requires linear and rotational movement of the latch member. Such movement is easily accomplished intentionally, but virtually impossible to accomplish inadvertently. Further, the latching mechanism may include apparatus for retaining the latch member in an open position when desired and also may include spring return means for returning the latch member to the closed position automatically.

  • Patent number: 3972652
Abstract: The improved clearance pocket or chamber for compressors described in this specification includes a hollow housing attached to the cylinder of the compressor. The housing is divided into two clearance chambers and into three power chambers. A valve member located in the housing is movable to provide communication between the compressor cylinder and one or both of the clearance chambers. Movable pistons operably arranged with respect to the valve member are located in the power chambers to position the valve member in the desired position. Suitable fluid power means is connected with the power chambers to cause the desired movement of the pistons.

  • Patent number: 3971210
Abstract: The system described herein utilizes a constant speed compressor to augment a service compressor that is an integral part of a gas turbine engine to assure that adequate pressure and volume of air is provided for fuel atomization during start-up of the engine. Further, the system is arranged so that the service compressor automatically assumes the load as its speed increases during the acceleration of the gas turbine engine. The system is designed so that the starting compressor will not be overloaded and can be completely isolated from the circuit if desired.
