  • Patent number: 6072767
Abstract: A turntable device of the present invention is applicable to, e.g., an optical disk drive and driven by a spindle motor while supporting an optical disk or similar disk-like recording medium thereon. A turntable assembly is made up of an upper turntable and a lower turntable. The upper turntable includes a projection having a tapered portion, and spring portions. The tapered portion and spring portions cooperate to surely obviate the eccentricity of the disk. The lower turntable includes a recess forming a space for accommodating the spring portions, thereby reducing the overall thickness of the assembly. The turntable device is therefore highly portable and small size.

  • Patent number: 6048391
Abstract: The invention provides a process for the preparation of a starch based glue for making corrugated board. The process is carried out in a system which includes a first and relatively large mixing vessel containing a stirrer. A second and smaller mixing vessel is connected to the first vessel via a recirculation path. The second and smaller mixing vessel contains means for exerting a shearing force which is greater than the shearing force exerted in the first and larger mixing vessel. The process is carried out in two steps. A first step is to make a carrier by combining water, starch and a limited amount of lye in the large vessel. A second step adds further amounts of starch, water, borax, and a second shot of lye to the carrier while in the small vessel. Adding lye in two steps is a principal aspect of the invention. If all lye is added in one step, it must be limited to an amount which does not prematurely gelatinize the starch to a level which defeats the glue making.

  • Patent number: 6018517
Abstract: A process for renegotiating, during a communication, the parameters of a traffic contract on an ATM network. The present invention relates to a renegotiation process, during a communication on an ATM network, of the parameters of the traffic contract that relates to this communication. It is characterized in that it consists:a. in predicting, for a predetermined period of time between two successive renegotiations, the maximal length that would be reached by a virtual file fed by the traffic of said communication, for at least a given thruput rate of said file.b. in deducing from said maximal length one or more new parameters for the traffic contract, andc. in renegotiating with the network on the basis of said (new) traffic parameter or parameters for said period of time.

  • Patent number: 6017555
Abstract: A process produces an L-Lysine feed supplement with a final L-Lysine purity in the range theoretically between about 35% and 80%, measured as a percent of free-base per kg, and more preferably between about 50% and 80% L-Lysine. The process comprises adding a material containing L-Lysine to an L-Lysine fermentation broth or a fraction of an L-Lysine fermentation broth. The added material being an amount which brings a final L-Lysine feed supplement with an L-Lysine purity into a range theoretically between about 35% and 80%, measured as a percent of free-base per kg, and more preferably between about 50% and 80% L-Lysine. The fraction of L-Lysine fermentation broth is obtained by any suitable separating means such as ultrafiltration or centrifugation. The process also comprises a drying step which may involve any suitable drying means such as a spray granulator, spray dryer, tray dryer, drum dryer, rotary dryer, and tunnel dryer.

  • Patent number: 6017433
Abstract: The invention is a process for desalting aqueous solutions, which are initially acidified to a pH of about 3 or less. Then, the acidified solution is fed into a desalting compartment of an electrodeionization cell which contains a suitable ion exchange material and is isolated from an adjacent concentrating compartments by an anion and a cation exchange membrane. The concentrate compartment contains a netting or another suitable material that promotes turbulence in a flowing feed stream. Water is supplied to the concentrate compartment. A DC current passes through the electrodeionization cell to produce a substantial desalination of the feed solution. A less acidic desalted solution and a concentrate waste solution are withdrawn from the electrodeionization cell.

  • Patent number: 6004151
Abstract: An electrical connector for electrically connecting a printed circuit board (PCB) to an electrical device, comprising a lower insulator mounted on the electrical device and an upper insulator relatively movable to the lower insulator. The upper insulator has a groove for receiving a board edge of PCB and a flexible printed circuit (FPC) having an end adjacent to the groove and a elastic urging plate. The FPC extends through the lower insulator and connect ed to the electrical device. The elastic urging member is bent into a "V" shape and is brought into contact with an inclined surface formed on the lower insulator when the upper insulator is moved towards the lower insulator. Thus, the bent portion of the urging member pushes the end of FPC into the groove to establish contact connection of conductors of the FPC with pads on the PCB. Thus, connection and disconnection of PCB with the edge connector can be made without insertion and removal force against the contact force between the pads and the FPC.

  • Patent number: 6001286
Abstract: A method of enhancing water resistance of composites uses a water repellant material which may be applied toward and other fibrous vegetable materials. The method begins with a saturated vegetable or animal fat triglyceride having a low iodine value. The triglyceride is rendered in a form which may be a fine powder, an emulsion, or a dispersion in a liquid. The sprayable triglyceride and a bonding agent are applied to the fibrous materials, preparatory to a press binding. There, the sprayed material is subjected to a hot press cycle in order to form a bonded fibrous composition. The low Iodine Value triglyceride may be selected from a group including hydrogenated vegetable oil, palm oil, stearine, winterized low IV fractions, soy stearine, animal fat, hydrogenated animal fat, and fractionated fats or blends of these materials.

  • Patent number: 5989919
Abstract: First and second semiconductor substrate samples formed with a first oxide layer with holes and a third semiconductor substrate sample formed with a second oxide layer having no hole are prepared. The first and the third samples are subject to the same contaminating process for contaminating the surface of the first oxide layer of the first sample and the surface within the hole, and the surface of the second oxide layer of the third sample. All of the first and second layers of the first to third samples are dissolved by the HF vapor. The dissolved solutions are collected and analyzed the amount of contaminating material contained in respective solutions. The contamination amount in the hole is derived from the first, second and third contamination amount from an equation:contamination amount in the hole =first contamination amount-second contamination amount-(surface exposing ratio.times.
