  • Patent number: 4560012
Abstract: A drill collar is formed by inner and outer tube means having an annular space extending longitudinally therebetween. Rigid filler material in the annular space forms, with the inner and outer tube means, a unitary elongated tubular structure. The rigid filler material precludes movement of the inner and outer tube means relative to each other. A longitudinal bore extends through the tubular structure.

  • Patent number: 4552230
Abstract: A telescopic shock absorber for use in a drill string includes a resilient arrangement to cushion telescopic contraction and extension of the shock absorber in response to shock loads and vibrations imparted during drilling. The shock absorber operates independently of the drilling fluid pressure conducted through the structure during drilling operations. A dampening system assists in cushioning the shock loads and vibrations and the dampening system and resilient arrangement are deactivated when jarring impacts are delivered to the well string by a drilling jar carried therein. The resilient arrangement provides a combination mechanical and hydraulic system for cushioning the impact loads and vibrations encountered.

  • Patent number: 4550011
Abstract: A cylindrical closed housing formed of clear material provides a test flow cell for monitoring the halogen and pH level in a flowing liquid stream. The cylindrical housing includes a circumferential, longitudinally extending side surface with front and back end surfaces secured to the circumferential cylindrical surface to form the closed, hollow housing test cell. The housing has a first inlet opening at one side for the liquid stream; an outlet opening for the liquid stream at the top of the housing and a second inlet opening for acid at the bottom of the housing. A pair of additional openings, one on each side of the outlet opening receives and positions electronic sensing probes diagonally within the test flow cell; the probes terminate between the top outlet and bottom second inlet openings and opposite the first inlet side opening.A controller includes circuitry which enables the halogen and pH levels desired in a reservoir of water to be preset.

  • Patent number: 4545444
Abstract: An energizer for use with a jar mechanism incorporated on inner and outer bodies in a well string to assist the jar mechanism in delivering an upward jar to the well string includes longitudinally spaced seal means between the inner and outer bodies forming a chamber for receiving a compressible medium therein. A differential area formed on one of the bodies within the compressible medium chamber compresses a compressible medium in the chamber as the well string is lowered to position the inner and outer bodies so that the jar mechanism is actuated to restrain relative longitudinal movement between the inner and outer bodies to an extended position whereby a pull force may be developed in the well string in one of the bodies.

  • Patent number: 4537251
Abstract: A tubular member is provided with expandable seals which are expanded into sealing engagement with a surrounding surface by a sleeve actuating member on the tubular member. A releasable retaining member is secured to the tubular member and has shoulder means adjacent one end interlocked with shoulder means adjacent an end of the sleeve actuating member to retain the sleeve actuating member in nonexpanding seal position as the tubular member is lowered into position in the well bore. The shoulder means on the releasable retaining member is on a longitudinally extending, radially flexible portion of the retaining member. An annular shoulder intermediate the ends of the flexible portion engages the upper end of a liner in the well bore, and moves the flexible portion radially inwardly to disengage the interlocked shoulder means, thus releasing the sleeve actuating means to expand the expandable seals.

  • Patent number: 4523645
Abstract: Material is supported on rotatable reel means with one end extending therefrom for connection with a well string for a well bore. Movable means support the portion of material extending between the reel means and well string. Means lower and raise the movable means whereby some of the supported material may be selectively moved into the well bore or removed therefrom along with the well string, if desired, without rotating the reel means on which it is supported during the lowering or removing procedure. Means rotate the reel support means to selectively pay out additional material for movement into the well bore or to reeve material removed from the well bore thereon. Control and actuating means effect operation of the various means as desired. Means support the well string and the material to enable the lowering of the well string and material into, and removal thereof, from the well bore.

  • Patent number: 4490049
Abstract: A longitudinally extending housing with end closures forms a closed mixing chamber within the housing. A mixer that has a fluid material inlet at each end thereof with longitudinally spaced, opposed ends forming fluid material outlets and a central peripheral discharge from the mixer between the end outlets is supported on a rotatable shaft that extends through one of the end closures to position the mixer in the mixing chamber. Housing inlet means comprising a pair of conduits communicate fluid to the closed mixing chamber for discharging it thereinto adjacent, but spaced from the end fluid inlets of the mixer, and housing outlet means is aligned with the mixer to receive the central discharge therefrom. The diameter of the mixer is about one-half the diameter of the closed mixing chamber, and the length of the mixer is about one-third the longitudinal extent of the closed mixing chamber. The mixer is positioned substantially equidistant from the sides and ends of the mixing chamber.

  • Patent number: 4451183
Abstract: Aggregate, fragmented material and the like is transported in a pipeline by introducing foam under pressure into the pipeline along with the aggregate, fragmented material and the like to be transported and the foam and aggregate, fragmented material and the like are maintained at a pressure to move the aggregate, fragmented material and the like and foam along the pipeline. The foam may be regenerated at spaced positions along the pipeline by introducing additional foam into the pipeline or introducing gas under pressure into the pipeline to agitate the foam. The gas phase of the foam, as well as the gas employed to regenerate the foam consists essentially of one of the group consisting of air, nitrogen, natural gas or carbon dioxide and the liquid phase of the foam consists essentially of one of the group consisting of water, brine or oil.

  • Patent number: 4422504
Abstract: A protective clamp assembly is provided for securing a conductor lines to the production tubing of oil and gas wells and providing for efficient transition of the conductor lines past the various connections of the well tubing. To prevent crushing or other damage to those portions of the conductor lines that are located at tubing connections, the clamp assembly of this invention provides for efficient transition of the conductor lines past the enlarged connections of the tubing. Under circumstances where the tubing is brought into forcible contact with the well casing within which it is received, the protective clamp assembly contacts the well casing thus preventing the well casing from applying crushing force to the conductor lines.
