  • Patent number: 5019717
Abstract: A computer-controlled, uninterruptable power supply system is disclosed. The system selectively operates from more than one input source of power, e.g., an AC input, an external DC input and internal batteries. The system is of the type which utilizes one or more switch mode converters and is especially suited for use in computer systems. The system monitors a number of functions under computer control and reacts automatically to the monitored functions to follow a programmed course of action. During start up, the system monitors prescribed functions and prevents power turn-on upon detection of prescribed faults. The system may communicate with a host computer, provide data thereto, and receive down-loaded parameters therefrom. Such down-loaded parameters may be used by the system to control operation of the system.

  • Patent number: 5017625
Abstract: Skin friendly pressure sensitive adhesives in the form of inherently tacky polyurethane-containing gells may be prepared by reacting an isocyanate prepolymer, which is itself the reaction product of poly-functional isocyanate and polyoxyalkylene diol monoalkyl ether, with a hydroxyl-containing ester of acrylic or methacrylic acid and optionally other hydroxyl containing compounds and then cross-linking the polymer so formed by means of irradiation. The proportion of acrylate chosen is such that it will react with at least 15 to 25% of the free isocyanate groups in the prepolymer and the remainder react with the other hydroxyl containing compound. The adhesives are capable of absorbing up to 95%, typically from 35 to 95% by weight of water when hydrated. The use of the adhesive in highly moisture vapor permeable dressings is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5008543
Abstract: A system is disclosed for determining the position of at least one target by triangulation, comprising two passive sighting devices which measure the intensity of radiation received along a sighting line which scans a vertical sighting plane. They are disposed at a distance from each other along the same vertical axis and are driven in rotation about this common axis so that their sighting planes merge. A circuit extracts the angular coordinates of the target, relative to each of the sighting devices, and computes the distance of the target by triangulation in the vertical sighting plane.
