Abstract: The present invention relates to novel bisbenzophenones and the use thereof as an ultraviolet light absorber. The presently claimed compounds are particularly useful, either alone or in combination with other additives, including other ultraviolet light absorbers, antioxidants and stabilizers, in stabilizing polymers and other materials from degradation by environmental forces such as actinic radiation (ultraviolet light), oxidation, moisture, atmospheric pollutants and combinations thereof.
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a polymer component having controlled branching, formed from the reaction product of a prepolymer and a chain extender, which prepolymer is itself formed from the reaction product of a mixture of a non-self-associating isocyanate component, a diol component having a molecular weight from about 1500 to 6000 grams/mole and present in an amount greater than about 50% by weight based on the total weight of the prepolymer, and an ion-forming compound, where the chain extender includes an amine-containing compound and is present in an amount sufficient to react with at least about 99% of the isocyanate groups present after the prepolymer has been formed, wherein the controlled branching of the polymer includes at least one of:
a hydroxy-functional component having hydroxyl functionality greater than 2.0 and a molecular weight from about 700 to 2000; or a low molecular weight component having more than two hydroxyl groups.

Abstract: It has been now surprisingly discovered after extensive research that 2-halo-4,6-bisaryl-1,3,5-triazine can be prepared with unprecedented selectivity, efficiency, mild conditions, and in high yield by the reaction of cyanuric halide with aromatics in the presence of at least one Lewis acid and at least one reaction promoter. This reaction is also unprecedently general as a variety of aromatics can be used to produce a wide selection of 2-halo-4,6-bisaryl-1,3,5-triazines. The novel approach includes the use of the reaction promoters in combination with at least one Lewis acid under certain reaction conditions to promote the formation of 2-halo-4,6-bisaryl-1,3,5-triazine compounds from cyanuric halide. Preferably, the Lewis acids and reaction promoters are combined to form a complex. 2-Halo-4,6-bisaryl-1,3,5-triazines are key intermediates for making 2-(2-oxyaryl)-4,6-bisaryl-1,3,5-triazine class of UV absorbers.

Abstract: A highly filled, ceramic-like thermoplastic polyester resin molding composition, characterized as containing a polyethylene terephthalate base resin, an impact modifier system containing a copolymer and terpolymer, glass fibers, and a mineral filler. Shaped articles prepared from the molding composition exhibit a ceramic appearance and feel, glossy surface finish, improved impact strength, and high specific gravity.
Abstract: In one embodiment, this invention discloses polyester-based toner particles suitable to be dyed directly and coated with charge control agent and flow agent to result in particles suitable for color toner applications. The particles have ideal particle size, shape and distribution for such applications.
