    Abstract: A cutting tool configuration includes a cutting bit insert configured in the shape of an octagonal pyramid. The cutting bit insert includes a number of portions, each of which has faces which slope at different angles with respect to the longitudinal axis of the cutting bit insert. The cutting bit insert also includes a flange which is surrounded by a ring. The ring is softer than the cutting bit insert.
