  • Patent number: 6340509
Abstract: Bicycle frame components without laps made by a method comprising; shaping a fluid-removable core in the general form of the component, placing a flexible inflatable bladder around the core, wrapping over the assembly of core and bladder at least one ply of fiber impregnated with a curable resin, forming a cured part by inflating the bladder while the assembly of core, bladder, and impregnated fiber is in a mold to force the plies against the inner surfaces of the mold, such that compaction of the fiber against the mold is predominantly from the bladder inflation and not from the core, and heating to cure the resin to form a cured part, removing the bladder and the fluid-removable core from the interior of the cured part by disintegrating the fluid-removable core with a fluid sufficient to allow removal of the core and the bladder.

  • Patent number: 6319346
Abstract: A process for forming an aircraft control surface in the form of a spoiler from a fiber/resin composite is disclosed. The trailing edge is compression molded by applying pressure on the mold. The leading edge is thick walled in the form of a torsion box and is molded by an internal pressurizable bladder.

  • Patent number: 6294148
Abstract: A process for controlling the continuous production of acetylene and hydrated lime from the reaction of water with calcium carbide is disclosed where the hydrated lime is withdrawn at a desired mass ratio of the hydrated lime to the calcium carbide feed. The process is also controlled by regulating the temperature so that it is independent of the variations in the production of acetylene by regulating heat transfer to the environment at a rate to maintain a constant temperature in the reactor. Preferably, the reaction is controlled by withdrawing the hydrated lime slurry product at a rate low enough to maintain a slurry concentration of hydrated lime above about 14 weight percent.

  • Patent number: 6283978
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for microdermabrasion, a free-flowing, abrasive particulate material is applied upon an application surface. The application surface has a non-abrasive, textured surface that provides holding cells in the surface, such that abrasive particulate material is non-adhesively held in the holding cells. The application surface is pressed or directed against a skin surface to be treated while applying a pressure and stroking the application surface along the skin surface. The pressure and the stroking is transmitted through the application surface in such a way that the particulate provides an abrasive action against the skin, during which time the particulate is held non-adhesively and free-flowing in the holding cells. After the tool is stroked over the skin several times, the particulate material and abraded skin particles are removed, preferably by brushing, from the surface.
