Abstract: A heat exchanger plate block is comprised of a stack of consecutive, spaced, parallel rectangular plates mounted within an enclosing frame. The frame has end walls parallel to the plates and corner posts extending between and joining corners of the end walls. Resilient spacers are included between the plates to render the stack of plates elastically compressible as a unit in a direction normal to the planes of the plates. Resilient corner spacers are provided to space corners of the plates from adjacent corner posts to accommodate growth of the plates due to thermal expansion in their planes. The plates of the plate stack hence float within resilient fixtures which accommodate thermal expansion parallel to and normal to the planes of the plates.
Abstract: An edge protector for a sheet of glass or the like comprising an integral, dual-durometer, co-extruded channel having rigid and soft portions. The rigid portion comprises a channel having an internally generally flat central portion and legs extending convergently from edges of the central portion and terminating in reversely curved, divergent edge portions providing confronting oppositely curved surfaces spaced from the central portion. The soft portion comprises deformable gripping pads formed integrally by co-extrusion on said confronting surfaces and providing confronting, deformable gripping surfaces for conformably gripping therebetween, with surface-to-surface contact, exterior parallel surfaces of a glass sheet or the like adjacent the edge of the sheet with the latter receivable in confronting relationship to the internally generally flat central portion of the protector.
Abstract: An improvement in facility management systems that allows an electronic control unit to be interfaced with a pneumatic cylinder unit. The digital pneumatic modulator of the improvement includes a solenoid valve controlled pneumatic input port, a solenoid valve controlled pneumatic exhaust port, and a flow controlled pneumatic exit port for connection with a pneumatic cylinder.
Abstract: A lighting and air filter structure for use in clean rooms and the like. The structure includes a housing with upstream and downstream sides and through which air is flowed, the filter carried by the housing to filter the air, a plurality of lights carried by the housing downstream of the filter, and reflector means comprising a plurality of parallel, elongated reflector plates and carried between the filter and the lights. The plates are spaced in the direction of air flow from one another to provide air flow ports, and the reflector plates cause no significant pressure drop thereacross.
Abstract: The invention provides an improvement in a fleshing machine comprising dual linking means mechanically and hydraulically linking the handle to the tissue-removing head for hydraulically moving the head longitudinally of the mandrel in response to longitudinal components of movement of the handle with respect to the mandrel and for mechanically moving the head generally transversely of the mandrel in response to components of handle movement generally transverse of the longitudinal direction of the mandrel.
Abstract: A biopsy needle having a cannula with a sharpened distal end and a stylet received coaxially in the cannula and having a sharpened distal end protruding from the distal end of the cannula. The distal ends of the stylet, the cannula, or both, are provided with particular cutting edge configurations enabling the needle to more readily penetrate bone.
Abstract: The temperature of a biological specimen or other object may be controlled by supporting the object within a vessel containing a liquid cryogen above the liquid cryogen level and varying the vertical spacing between the object and the liquid cryogen level. The vessel is provided with vertically continuous inner walls of high thermal conductivity, e.g., metal walls, to provide a vertical temperature gradient within the vessel above the liquid cryogen level.
Abstract: A syringe having a barrel and a plunger moveable axially in the barrel is provided with locking means for locking the plunger to the barrel. The locking means includes cam means carried between the barrel and the plunger, and means for moving the cam into a position forcing the plunger into binding contact with the barrel.
Abstract: An ileostomy valve for controlling bowel continence. The valve includes drainage tube means having a flexible outer end portion and an inner end portion, securing means carried by the inner end portion for securing the latter to the stoma of a patient deep to the fascia, and means for releasably sealing the outer end portion of the drainage tube. The latter means comprises means carried by the drainage tube means for releasably retaining the outer end thereof in a collapsably folded position along its length to form a waterproof seal.
Abstract: A punch assembly having a punch head adjustably connected to a punch drive. By manipulation of this adjustment and by measuring only the length of the punch unit from the punch head to the tip of the punch tip, the operator may guarantee that when the punch unit is placed within a punch guide in a nonpunching position, the punch tip will be properly recessed within the punch guide.
Abstract: An improvement in microwave processing units having a turntable disposed with a processing cavity, the improvement comprising tilting the processing cavity and establishing a cross-polarized energy field therein.
Abstract: A squeegee assembly having a tapered, flexible blade edge that will not develop a wary surface through use. The blade edge is formed on a flexible blade member, which blade member is disposed about and attached to another less flexible blade member. The flexible blade members may be symmetrically formed about a longitudinal axis, and the flexible blade member may include a blade edge formed on either side thereof. A blade support member having a shaped notch for receiving the flexible blade member provides longitudinal support therefor. The blade support member and flexible blade members are held and supported by a handle and trigger assembly having trigger actuated jaws.
