  • Patent number: 5435458
Abstract: New and improved spill containment devices and methods, for use primarily by the railroads, are provided in one or more lidded catch pans positionable generally around and under a transportation container for collecting and containing spilled or dripping chemical materials. A preferred spill containment apparatus comprises a combination of three catch pans positionable along a railroad siding including an inboard pan disposed between the rails and two outboard pans extending outwardly adjacent and alongside the rails and the inboard pan. The outboard pans have sectional lids that swing back over the railroad rails. This not only protects the area from splashing caused by heavy dropping in the big center pan, but also ensures that drips from above do not land on the rails or the gap between the inboard pan and the rails. When not in use, these sloped sectional lids divert dirt and rainwater away from the outboard receptacle or collecting basin portions of each outer pan.

  • Patent number: 5419729
Abstract: This doll, or mannequin, features a relatively rigid core with an expandable flexible covering and inflation mechanism in order to expand the flexible covering to simulate weight gain or muscular development. The inflation mechanism may include a valve to slowly release accumulated pressure to simulate weight loss. The flexible covering, simulating a person's skin, may be formed integrally upon the core or may be placed upon the core as a close-fitting enclosure. The muscle gain doll features nonexpanding bands attached to the flexible covering to simulate muscular definition. Such a doll may be used with essentially non-stretchable clothing to simulate a person growing larger relative to their clothing and the unseemly appearance resulting therefrom.

  • Patent number: 5350079
Abstract: A safety cover assembly for use with an associated storage drum. The assembly includes a drum insert with a collar having a two-part cover assembly disposed atop the collar. The moveable part of the cover assembly is actuated by one portion of a crank mechanism, the other portion of which includes a pair of ends secured to a treadle and riser assembly. In use, pushing down on the treadle lowers the one portion of the crank mechanism, and raising the other portion and the associated cover. The treadle and riser assembly is open at the rear to facilitate removal and replacement of the drum. The moveable cover part may be secured to the crank by a fusible link for fire protection.

  • Patent number: 5346662
Abstract: A method for forming a composite seal is disclosed. The seal includes a seal ring made from a lubricous fluorocarbon material affixed by a positioning collar to a seal casing having axial and radial flanges. The casing radial flange has an inner margin and a given outer diameter, and the seal ring has contact and non-contact faces. The seal ring also includes at least an outer margin of frustoconical configuration, terminating in an outer edge of a given diameter. The method includes positioning the seal ring and the casing in a multi-element mold, closing the mold and filling the mold cavity thus formed with a fluent, curable elastomer which is permitted to cure into a solid collar positioning the seal ring and affixing it to the casing. Thereafter, portions of the positioning collar are cut away to leave the seal ring secured to the casing by a positioning collar of substantially reduced, thin cross-section.

  • Patent number: 5318056
Abstract: A recirculating type cleaner for paint spray guns. The apparatus includes a cabinet supporting a sink and a pair of solvent receptacles each containing a pump and motor for circulating solvent from the receptacles through outlet nozzles and into the sink. In use, the gun is given one or more initial rinses with solvent, from one receptacle, after which a final cleaning rinse is made with new solvent from another receptacle. The sink drain is arranged so that all of the solvent is returned to a single container. Clean solvent passes in use from the clean solvent receptacle to the used or dirty solvent receptacle, leaving fresh solvent uncontaminated, while the contaminated solvent is used repeatedly. The sink includes a fire safety cover secured over the sink opening by a fusible link, and the solvent receptacles are positioned for ready removal to facilitate periodic servicing.
