  • Patent number: 6965838
Abstract: A computing system includes a semiconductor which sources current to load components within the system, a controllable load coupled to the semiconductor and having an on-state in which a predetermined current load is drawn from the semiconductor in addition to the load components, and a controller which couples the semiconductor and the controllable load. In this configuration, the controller senses the voltage across the semiconductor on at least three points in time. The controller activates the on-state of the controllable load during one of the three points in time and derives a first calculated voltage as a function of the three voltages sensed. The controller calculates the on-resistance of the semiconductor by dividing the first calculated voltage by the predetermined current.

  • Patent number: 6910054
Abstract: Methods, systems and computer program products for storing data that use a rolling window file that maintains a defined file size while sequentially replacing an oldest portion of previously stored data with new data are provided. The rolling window file operates without the use of a wrap buffer implemented through manipulation of a current offset pointer by moving a first storage region in a sequentially linked plurality of storage regions associated with the rolling window file to become the new last (or end of file) storage region associated with the file. Newly received data may then be stored in the newly designated end of file storage region. Operations moving the first region in the linked sequence to the last position can repeat theoretically indefinitely as new data is received.

  • Patent number: 6879065
Abstract: An improved linear actuator incorporates a DC motor whose stator is secured to a frame is provided for. To improve operational longevity and reliability of a linear actuator, the improved actuator includes a retention clutch and an axial load limiter. An axially configured retention clutch is configured to slidably fit within the open inner channel diameter of an axial load limiter and over a motor shaft of a linear actuator. In operation, the retention clutch reduces the impact loads on the stop and extending the fatigue life of these wearable components. Similarly, when the screw encounters axial loads during operation, these loads are distributed across both the axial load limiter and the motor, thereby reducing direct forces on the motor and contributing to an extended use of the motor component.

  • Patent number: 6859879
Abstract: The present invention relates to a client-server system having a security system for controlling access to application functions. The security system separated from the clients and the application functions routes all incoming requests created by various PVC-devices to a centralized security system providing an authentication component and a security component. The authentication component provides several authentication mechanisms which may be selected by information contained in the client's request. The authentication mechanism may be changed or extended without changing conditions on the client as well on the server or application side. The security component provides a security policy describing security requirements for accessing application functions which may be invoked by the security component. If the selected authentication mechanism succeeds and fulfills the security policy associated to that application function then the application function will be invoked by the security component.

  • Patent number: 6839700
Abstract: Methods, systems, computer program products, and methods of doing business by performing load balancing of content requests using information regarding the cost of dynamically creating the requested document content. Cost metrics are gathered by a server which generates requested content, and may reflect processing at one or more other servers. This cost information is provided to a load balancing host. Several alternative approaches for providing the cost metrics may be used, including defining new headers for response messages, specifying cookie values, and so forth. The load balancing host may choose to route a subsequent request for that content to the server which most recently generated the content, or to another available server, depending on the cost of re-generating the content and the current load on those servers.

  • Patent number: 6823454
Abstract: A device certificate identifies a particular device using a globally-unique device identifier and contains a public key associated therewith. A private key stored in protected storage of the device is used to digitally sign outbound messages, enabling the message receiver to authenticate the message originator. Devices requesting address assignment from a service such as a Boot Protocol or Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol service can be authenticated by that service before an address is assigned. The device of the service providing the address assignment may also digitally sign the requested address, using its own private key, enabling the address receiver to verify that the address provider is authentic before accepting and using the assigned address. A device requesting an update to address information stored in a Domain Name System (DNS) server can be authenticated and/or can ensure that a legitimate DNS has been contacted.

  • Patent number: 6817018
Abstract: A method of delivering messages between application programs is provided which ensures that no messages are lost and none are delivered more than once. The method uses asynchronous message queuing. One or more queue manager programs (100) is located at each computer of a network for controlling the transmission of messages to and from that computer. Messages to be transmitted to a different queue manager are put onto special transmission queues (120). Transmission to an adjacent queue manager comprises a sending process (130) on the local queue manager (100) getting messages from a transmission queue and sending them as a batch of messages within a syncpoint-manager-controlled unit of work. A receiving process (150) on the receiving queue manager receives the messages and puts them within a second syncpoint-manager-controlled unit of work to queues (180) that are under the control of the receiving queue manager.
