    Abstract: A method and system for compensating for line imbalances in line commutated converters. The controller includes a phase-locked loop (PLL) synchronizing tool which receives the line to line voltage signals and generates firing angle and frequency signals used for synchronizing the two input signals. The PLL controller, in addition to the firing angle and frequency signals, also generates signals representative of filtered values of amplitudes for each of the line to line voltage signals. A voltage imbalance compensation processor associated with the bridge firing controller receives the filtered amplitude signals and also a signal representative of the firing sector of the bridge. The voltage imbalance compensation processor generates, based upon the sector signal and the received filtered amplitude signals a amplitude signal used by a current regulator which is compensated for line imbalances present in the line voltage.

    Abstract: A three-dimensional projection image representing a projection of a data volume at a predetermined orientation, three cut plane images representing respective mutually orthogonal planar cuts through the data volume, a graphical representation of the data volume at that orientation and graphical representations of the cut planes are displayed in spaced relationship. Each of the cut planes has a respective positional relationship to the data volume graphic that corresponds to the positional relationship of the respective cut plane to the data volume. The graphical representations are displayed in different colors. Any one of the four images can be active in the sense that images are reconstructed in real-time as a trackball is moved. Which of the four images is active is indicated by displaying the corresponding graphical representation in a color denoting the active state.

The first transistor stage is configured to supply an output signal having a predetermined time response. The circuit further comprises a second transistor stage coupled to the first transistor stage and configured to supply an output signal having a slow time response relative to the output signal from the first transistor stage.

    Abstract: A method and system for compensating for voltage notches in phase locked loop (PLL) control devices. A bridge firing controller receives signals representative of two of the line to line voltages received by the bridge. The controller includes a PLL synchronizing tool which receives the line to line voltage signals and generates a synchronizing phase error signal for aligning the phases of the two input signals. The controller, for a predetermined period following bridge firing, determines whether a voltage notch has occurred. If so, the controller substitutes model control signals for actual control signals so as to reduce the effect of the notch on the generated phase error signal used for synchronization. If not, the controller continues to use the actual control signals to generate the phase error signal. Once the predetermined period has expired, the controller utilizes the actual control signals to generate the phase error signal.

The method allows for storing log data indicative of respective incidents or events that may occur as each of the subsystems is operative. A detecting step allows for detecting predetermined trend patterns in the log incident data. A mapping step allows for mapping each detected trend pattern into a respective prediction of an impending failure of a respective one of the subsystems of the locomotive, and an informing or outputting step allows for informing a respective user of the failure prediction so as to allow the user to take corrective action before the predicted failure occurs.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for wheel diameter calibration in a vehicle of the type having a plurality of independently powered wheel-axle sets which can be implemented as a forced calibration while the vehicle is in either a tractive effort or an electrical braking mode. The process includes the steps of determining if vehicle tractive effort would be effected if one wheel-axle set were disabled and, if not, selectively disabling one of the wheel-axle sets, calculating vehicle speed from a present value of wheel diameter for the disabled axle and wheel revolutions per unit time, establishing a true value of vehicle speed from an independent measurement, computing the error between calculated vehicle speed and the true value of vehicle speed, and adjusting the present value of wheel diameter so as to minimize the computed speed error.

Effective wheel slip control is thus provided without requiring sensors for measuring rotational speed of the traction motors.
