    Abstract: The present inventions relate to improved apparatus and methods for radially expanding tubulars, such as tubing, casing and sand-control screen assemblies in a subterranean oil or gas well, and more specifically, to a variable diameter expansion tool for expanding downhole tubulars to varying diameters. In general, the inventions provide apparatus and methods for radially expanding a tubular, such as pipe, tubing, screen or screen assembly, deployed in a subterranean well by moving an expansion tool axially through the well. An automatically infinitely variable-diameter expansion cone tool is provided. A variable-diameter cone is provided, movable between an expanded position and a retracted position. The cone is enlarged to its expanded position and advanced through expandable components until a restriction is reached. At the restriction, the variable-diameter cone automatically retracts enough to allow the tool to continue advancing through the wellbore.

    Abstract: A retrievable bridge plug assembly having an internal “pump through” bypass passage and a wedge assembly, slips and seals disposed thereon. A retrieving tool is provided for running, setting, releasing and retrieving the bridge plug assembly. A tubing sensor is included to prevent setting of the bridge plug assembly in improper size tubing. When the bridge plug is properly located, the wedge assembly can actuated by manipulation of the retrieving tool to force the slips radially outward into gripping engagement with the well tubular and to force the seals into sealing engagement with the well tubular. A ball valve on the bridge plug assembly is movable to selectively open and close the bypass passage. The retrieving tool can maintain the valve and passageway open to facilitate circulation during run in and setting and also open during retrieving for pressure equalization. A service packer can be connected to and run with the bridge plug assembly.

    Abstract: Disclosed are improved methods and apparatus for improving the production of hydrocarbons from wells having gravel pack in a production zone. The methods and apparatus basically comprise the steps of entering a gravel packed well and perforating the gravel pack screen and fracture packing the formation through the screen perforations. At least the last portion of the particulate is preferably coated with a consolidator that will form a proppant pack. Installing a second screen in the well to overlap the perforations in the gravel pack screen to prevent the particulate from reentering the well.

A first valve is positioned within the housing for opening and closing the interior fluid flow passage of the housing, and a second valve is positioned within the housing for opening and closing the circulating port.

A tool insert which is positioned to cut the inner portion of the leading surface may be angled to direct cuttings outwardly, toward an adjacent chip relief groove. The flanks of the tool insert holders are cut back to allow access to the retaining screw in the adjacent tool insert holder for tool insert replacement.

A collecting trough is positioned below the wiper contact line to receive the tramp oil as it is stripped from the drum and drain it off to a waste container. In this manner, the cutting fluid is in constant circulation, even when the machine tool is idle.

    Abstract: A well tool and method are provided for evaluating a subterranean formation through an exposed formation surface, such as the wall of a newly drilled well bore. The tool has a tubular main housing that is connectable into a well work string. A probe and a scraper are extendible from the main housing in response to a first signal of a signal set transmitted from the surface. The probe and the scraper are returnable to the main housing in response to a second signal set transmitted from the surface. The probe provides an isolated fluid conduit from the formation surface to a sensor for measuring a condition in the well. The scraper is for removing debris and for smoothing the formation surface, thereby helping to establish a sealed engagement of the probe to the formation surface. The tool can also be provided with a sampling vessel for taking samples of formation fluids obtained via the isolated fluid conduit in the probe.

    Abstract: A perforating gun connector is provided for downhole use in oil and gas fields. The perforating gun connector includes a stinger and a stinger receptacle. The stinger is adapted to be stabbed into the stinger receptacle. A loaded engaging member movable between a running position before the stinger is stabbed into the stinger receptacle and a latched position when the stinger is stabbed into the stinger receptacle to latch the stinger and the stinger receptacle together. A release member retains the loaded engaging member in the running position. When the stinger is stabbed into the stinger receptacle and a set force is applied to the stinger and stinger receptacle, the release member releases the loaded engaging member to move to the latched position and latch the stinger and the stinger receptacle together. According to a second aspect of the invention, the perforating gun connector is releasable, further including a releasable stop member to stop the engaging member in the latched position.
