  • Patent number: 8107985
Abstract: In one illustrative method, a method in a mobile station for use in reducing delays for data communications is described. The mobile station causes a request for packet data service to be sent to a wireless communication network. If the request for the packet data service is denied in response to the request, then the mobile station is set in a deregistered state. In addition, the mobile station initializes a timer with an initial value that is less than a periodic location update timer value which is broadcasted by the wireless communication network, and runs the timer. In response to an expiration of the timer, the mobile station causes another request for the packet data service to be sent to the wireless communication network.

  • Patent number: 8099118
Abstract: A voice call request for a voice call involving the mobile device is received in a wireless network while the mobile device is engaged in a connected data communication service via the wireless network. The service utilizes a radio traffic channel between the mobile device and the wireless network and a data session for communication of data. In response to the receiving of the voice call request, the wireless network causes the radio traffic channel for the service to be torn down without terminating the data session. The wireless network also causes a voice call involving the mobile device to be established and maintained over a new radio traffic channel via the wireless network while the data session for the service is maintained. Subsequently, the wireless network identifies an indication that the voice call involving the mobile device has ended and, in response, resumes the communication of the data in the data session over a radio traffic channel.

  • Patent number: 8099121
Abstract: One illustrative technique is performed in a requesting terminal of a plurality of terminals of a communication group for a communication session delivered via a network. Each terminal has communication capabilities within the communication group, such that a currently-transmitting terminal in the communication group is given a transmit capability using a talk channel while all other terminals of the communication group have a receive capability. The requesting terminal, which is not the currently-transmitting terminal, receives a user input for selecting a responding terminal of the communication group for responding in the communication session. The requesting terminal then transmits, while the transmit capability is given to the currently-transmitting terminal, a request for the network to grant the responding terminal the transmit capability. The request includes an identification of the responding terminal.

  • Patent number: 8098630
Abstract: In one illustrative example, a system acquisition method suitable for use in W-CDMA utilizes a receiver having an automatic frequency control (AFC) circuit. A system acquisition scan is performed over a plurality of candidate frequencies in an RF band. During the system acquisition scan, a pilot signal of a system on one of the candidate frequencies is detected. When information of the system is successfully decoded, and the system is different from a requested system (e.g. not the RPLMN or HPLMN), the pilot signal of the system is assigned as a timing reference in the receiver for one or more remaining candidate frequencies of the system acquisition scan. Therefore, an AFC window time otherwise needed to converge on a remaining candidate frequency is not needed or reduced.
