  • Patent number: 6599430
Abstract: Method and multipurpose apparatus for internally cleaning a hydraulic control system are disclosed. The method is carried out by establishing a turbulent flow of cleaning fluid through the hydraulic control system and maintaining the turbulent flow until the hydraulic control system has been cleaned without diverting a portion of cleaning fluid through a bypass valve, by use of a variable speed pump coupled to a fluid accumulator. The apparatus comprises a filtration system for cleaning up recovered fluid, a primary pump, an accumulator, a first manifold for fluid injection, a second manifold for fluid recovery, and a return conduit from the second manifold to the filter.

  • Patent number: 6593277
Abstract: Aggregates of cellulose-containing particles, such as particles of waste paper and optional other vegetation or waste particles are used as a carrier for additives such as insecticides, herbicides, fertilizers and nutrients. The particles permits a “timed release” of the additives. The particles can be employed as a building insulation to prevent infestations of roaches, termites, ant, or other insects in the building when they contain insecticides. The particles can also be employed to promote revegetation of denuded areas, such as highway right of ways when they contain fertilizers and nutrients.

  • Patent number: 6584720
Abstract: A device is disclosed which enables a scoped firearm owner to determine whether a scope has lost zero due to being moved or hit. A blank cartridge form is attached to a second scope by a bracket. To use, the rifle is first sighted in, then the blank cartridge form is inserted to the rifle chamber and the device is rotated around the chamber until a stop device protruding from the bracket touches the rifle scope. The rifle is then placed in a firm rest with the crosshairs of the rifle scope centered on a target at a known distance and the second scope then adjusted to indicate the same aiming point. If the owner is later unsure whether the scope has lost zero, a target can be set up at the same distance, the device again mounted to the rifle, and the two scopes viewed to determine whether the same impact point is indicated. If it is not, the rifle scope can then be adjusted to the spot indicated by the device scope.

  • Patent number: 6526825
Abstract: A gravity measuring instrument comprises a housing, a float, and proximity sensing means between the housing and the float. The housing defines a vertically oriented elongated chamber for containing a liquid. The chamber has an upper end and a lower end. The float is elongated and is positioned in the chamber. The float has an upper end and a lower end. A liquid partly fills the chamber and the float is positioned for free floating movement in the liquid in response to gravity variations. A proximity target is on the lower end of the elongated float and a proximity sensor is supported in immovable relation with the housing beneath the lower end of the elongated float. The sensor provides electrical signals representative of distance between the proximity sensor and proximity target. The design avoids large, upwardly facing, horizontal surfaces on the elongated float to reduce the possibility of erroneous gravity readings due to the accumulation of fluid droplets or dust on such surfaces.

  • Patent number: 6516523
Abstract: A punch for making holes in sheet stock is disclosed having three main components, a frame, a lever arm, and a plunger. The frame defines a tool head with a handle extending therefrom. The tool head defines a lower jaw and an upper jaw. The upper jaw is spaced apart from the lower jaw to define a first slot opening into the tool head from the first lateral side between the upper jaw and the lower jaw. The stock to be punched can be received and positioned by the slot. A plunger is mounted in the lower jaw for sliding movement toward the upper jaw. A lever arm extends into the tool head and actuates the plunger around a pivot point in the tool head upon being urged toward the handle.

  • Patent number: 6470558
Abstract: A method of facing a substrate comprises the steps of first welding a body of a hard facing material to the substrate and then filling a space around the body with a molten metal. The method can be used in the hard facing of metal components with, for example, hard facing materials such as tungsten carbide. The substrate can comprise a metal surface, which can, for example, be the surface of any suitable component, tool, or implement subject to wear in use. The method is particularly suitable for hard facing the wear surfaces of components for use in drill strings in down-hole drilling technology, for example, drill stabilizers.

  • Patent number: 6440349
Abstract: To form a candle blank, a volume of hot liquid candle wax is injected into a generally cylindrical chamber having a length and a diameter. The hot liquid candle wax is then cooled and the length of the generally cylindrical chamber is reduced as the wax cools, so that the volume of the chamber remains substantially that of the volume of the shrinking wax. By operating in this manner, there is no room for a void to form. An apparatus to carry out the process comprises a block, a piston, a gate, a means to inject the wax, and a means to move the piston so that it follows the shrinkage of the wax as it solidifies. The block defines a generally cylindrical mold chamber for the candle blank. The mold chamber has a generally vertically positioned longitudinal axis, an upper end, and a lower end. The piston is positioned in the chamber to slide from the upper end to the lower end of the chamber. The gate is positioned at a lower end of the chamber.

  • Patent number: 6369344
Abstract: A method of facing a substrate comprises applying a plurality of facing bodies to a carrier in a pattern corresponding to the desired pattern of the bodies on the faced substrate. The carrier has holes positioned centrally with respect to each body. Each body has, on a contact face to be fixed to the substrate, spaced raised weld elements which serve to locate the contact face parallel to and spaced from the substrate. The carrier is applied to the substrate with the contact faces of the bodies facing the substrate and then each body is electrically welded to the substrate by applying a welding tip to the body through each hole. A gap remains between the contact face and the substrate. Finally, the bodies are brazed to the substrate and brazing material flows between the bodies and the substrate. A facing kit comprises a carrier strip with facing bodies adhered thereto, each having raised weld elements in the form of dimples or lines.
