  • Patent number: 5892208
Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method, for using circular mode magnetic microwave energy to heat the interior regions of a work piece of wood fiber and glue. The microwaves are generated and transmitted as rectangular waveguide mode microwave energy, and are converted by mode converter to circular magnetic mode microwave energy. As circular magnetic mode microwave energy, the microwave energy passes through a work piece or billet of material is reflected on the other side, and travels through the billet a second time. Reflected microwave energy from the main reflected wave as well as reflections from other structures, surfaces and layers in the system travel back toward the microwave source. They are sensed, and a computer tuning system causes capacitive probes to generate offsetting microwave reflections, which are opposite in phase and equal in magnitude to the sum of all of the reflected waves.

  • Patent number: 5889583
Abstract: A circuit and apparatus for generating a light pulse from an inexpensive light-emitting diode (LED) for an accurate distance measurement and ranging instrument comprises an LED and a firing circuit. An optional pre-biasing circuit provides a reverse-bias signal to the LED to ensure the LED does not begin to emit light before a firing circuit can provide a sufficiently high current pulse of short duration as a forward current through the LED. The LED is driven by the firing circuit with a pulse of high peak power and short duration. The resulting light pulse from the LED can be inexpensively used to derive distance and ranging information for use in a distance measurement and ranging device.

  • Patent number: 5873522
Abstract: A support apparatus for use on an above ground field irrigation system which supports an irrigation system pipe terminal end extension. The apparatus comprises a support post or stand which has a securing clamp ring at its upper end which is free to rotate about the pipe and secures the upper end of the stand to the terminal end of an irrigation system pipe. The apparatus supports the terminal end of an irrigation system pipe in an upright position when the stand is vertically beneath the terminal end as an alternative to a half-wheel or a full wheel at the terminal end.

  • Patent number: 5619193
Abstract: A system and apparatus for detecting and evaluating surface conditions on a road surface from a moving vehicle as disclosed. The system comprises a sensor means for detecting the presence of deposited material on a road surface, detecting means for determining one or more characteristics of the material such as its freezing temperature, process means for converting a detected signal and display means for displaying the condition of the road surface. A first embodiment of the invention includes a collection device for collecting a sample of the surface materials and one or more sensors to detect the freezing point of the material. A second embodiment includes a collection chamber which can be isolated and its contents frozen so that the freeze temperature may be obtained irrespective of knowing the composition of the material.

  • Patent number: 5607381
Abstract: An exercise apparatus utilizing a platform which is slidable on a frame. The platform moves on the frame against a resistance force provided by a spring connected to the platform and the frame. A foot support connects the frame and includes a contact surface which is adjustable along first and second dimensions.

  • Patent number: 5596167
Abstract: A multiple projectile cartridge for a muzzle loading firearm which comprises a plurality of projectiles, a plastic cup sized to fit into a bore of the muzzle loading firearm containing the projectiles and a top wad inserted into and retained in the open end of the cup by a retaining means in the tubular portion of the cup. The tubular portion of the cup includes several spaced longitudinal slots extending from the open end toward the base of the cup defining petals therebetween. The retaining means preferably includes a radial peripheral groove adjacent the open end of each of the petals of the tubular portion of the cup. The periphery of the top wad engages this groove to retain the top wad in place and in turn retain the shot load in the shot cup when the cartridge is inserted into the bore of the muzzle loading firearm.
