Abstract: The invention relates to surfactant based viscoelastic fluids for enhancing the productivity of a hydrocarbon-bearing formations, such as oil wells. The viscoelastic fluids of the invention have particular applicability in acid fracturing of subterranean formations surrounding oil and gas wells. The viscoelastic fluid contains an inorganic acid and at least one C10 to C24 alkyl trialkyl quaternary ammonium aromatic salt such as quaternary ammonium salicylate or phthalate. An anionic surfactant may also be present in the viscoelastic fluid. The addition of the C10 to C24 alkyl trialkyl quaternary ammonium aromatic salt to the inorganic acid causes gellation of the acid.

Such corrosive effects are especially inhibited in the treatment of sour wells where H2S corrosion is a potential problem as well as conduits used during the treatment of subterranean formations.

Abstract: A thermal insulating fluid contains microspheres of hollow spherical particulates. The presence of the hollow spherical particles improves the thermal insulating properties of the fluid by imparting to the thermal insulating fluid a low heat transfer coefficient. The hollow particulates may be inorganic or organic in nature and include hollow spheres of glass, ceramics and plastics. The thermal insulating fluid is capable of controlling the heat transfer from a production tubing or transfer pipe to one or more surrounding annuli and the environment. In addition to reducing heat transfer in the producing well, heat transfer in the fluid produced from the well is also minimized.
Abstract: A synergistic blend for foaming concentrated brines comprises at least one foaming agent (in an amount between from about 10 to about 90 weight percent of the blend) and a compound of the formula: CnH2n+1—N—[(CH2)mCOOM]2??(I) wherein n is 4 to 11, M is an alkali metal and m is 1 to 3. Especially suitable as foaming agent are quaternary ammonium salts, alkyl betaines, alkylamidopropyl betaines, sulfabetaines, hydroxysultaines, amphoteric perfluorohydrocarbons, as well as alkylether sulfates. Such synergistic blends are especially useful in the foaming of saturated or near saturated brines.
Abstract: A fluid flow model is comprised of one cross-flow style core holder and a multitude of standard style core holders, all connected by a concurrent combination of serial and parallel flow paths. The sum of these flow paths yields a fluid flow model that closely approximates a small radial slice of a conventional reservoir. The fluid flow model has particular applicability to estimate the requisite treatment fluid for use in acidizing as well as water control methods.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for producing a large sewn product, such as a mattress panel or a quilt, having two stitched seams created by a sewing device, moving transversely to the direction of feed, between two adjacently arranged sewn products. The material between said seams is subsequently cut by the sewing unit, located within the sewing device. The apparatus comprises a conveyor mechanism, a sewing device consisting of a sewing unit with at least two needles, a gripper box with grippers allocated to said needles, a tape-like element, a cutting element, and a storage mechanism. By guiding the sewing unit along a first guide means, and by guiding the gripper box along a second guide means, and synchronizing both, material can be cut and sewn on the rim without tension, thereby improving current methods by avoiding sewing inaccuracies and eliminating their subsequent remedies.

Abstract: A method of acidizing a subterranean formation with a diverting agent composed of a gelled or thickened viscoelastic foam or fluid generated from (i.) an amidoamine oxide gelling agent and (ii.) an acid or foam, water and/or brine. The gelled or thickened foam or fluid may be generated in-situ or introduced directly into the formation by mixing of the amidoamine oxide gelling agent and acid or foam, water and/or brine. As the acid spends, the acidizing fluid thickens. When the acid is further spent, the fluid viscosity declines eventually returning to a low viscosity state, allowing for easy cleanup. The process allows for selective acidizing of less permeable zones of the formation and more uniform stimulation of the hydrocarbon bearing formation.

Representative zeolites include natrolite, heulandite, analcime, chabazite, stilbite, and clinoptilolite. The weight percent of zeolite in the cement composition is generally less than or equal to 15 percent. In practice, a well bore may be cemented by pumping the activated slurry and pumping it within the well bore to a pre-selected location and allowing it to solidify.

Abstract: Fluid producing or injecting wells may be treated with a water-in-oil emulsion for the removal or inhibition of unwanted particulates, including pipe dope, asphaltenes and paraffins.
