  • Patent number: 6407042
Abstract: A composition is disclosed for application to a plant that comprises an exogenous chemical (for example, a postemergent herbicide), an aqueous diluent, and a first excipient substance that is amphiphilic. The weight/weight ratio of the first excipient substance to the exogenous chemical is between about 1:3 and about 1:100. The aqueous composition forms anisotropic aggregates on a wax layer, and the presence of the anisotropic aggregates can be detected by a test described herein. Compositions of the present invention, when applied to plants, provide enhanced biological activity per unit amount of exogenous chemical, as compared to otherwise similar compositions containing surfactants that do not form anisotropic aggregates. Without being bound by theory, it is presently believed that this enhanced biological activity results from the formation or enlargement of hydrophilic channels through the epicuticular wax of the plant.

  • Patent number: 6278017
Abstract: A process for the continuous production of N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine is provided. In the process, N-(acetyl)iminodiacetic acid is formed in an amidocarboxymethylation reactor system. The N-(acetyl)iminodiacetic acid product stream is either: (1) reacted with a source of phosphorous and a source of formaldehyde in the presence of an acid to form a phosphonomethylation reaction product stream containing N-(phosphonomethyl)iminodiacetic acid and acetic acid; or (2) deacylated and cyclized to form a 2,5-diketopiperazine, and then reacted with a source of phosphorous and a source of formaldehyde in the presence of an acid to form a phosphonomethylation reaction product stream containing N-(phosphonomethyl)iminodiacetic acid and acetic acid. In either case, the N-(phosphonomethyl)iminodiacetic acid product is recovered and converted to N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine.

  • Patent number: 5030786
Abstract: Aromatic conversion processes employing zeolite Y, zeolite omega and zeolite beta molecular sieve catalyst. A feed stock containing at least one aromatic compound and having water entrained therein is passed to a dehydration zone. In the dehydration zone, water is removed to provide a dehydrated feed stock of a water content no more than 100 ppm, preferably 50 ppm or less. The dehydrated feed stock is then supplied to the reaction zone containing the molecular sieve catalyst selected from the group consisting of zeolite Y, zeolite omega, and zeolite beta. The reaction zone is operated at temperature and pressure conditions to maintain the reactor contents in the liquid phase and also sufficient to cause the conversion reaction to proceed in the presence of the catalyst.
