  • Patent number: 8077019
Abstract: In a meeting or group event, people having a portable device, such as a cell phone or pager, may wish to be discretely notified when an important message is received, an urgent call comes in from a selected person or a selected group of people, or to be alerted to an upcoming important event without any audible alert to disturb the meeting or group event. To convey such a notification, a tactile alert is provided by vibrating the portable device according to a unique vibration pattern associated with the received communication. When a communication is received, a group identification (ID) is assigned based on the communication being a member of a classified group of source addresses. The portable device associates the group ID with a unique vibration pattern. To provide the alert, the portable device is vibrated according to the unique vibration pattern.

  • Patent number: 7526633
Abstract: Techniques for processing transmissions in a communications (e.g., CDMA) system. The method and system encode and process instructions of mixed lengths (e.g., 16 bits and 32 bits) and instruction packets including instructions of mixed lengths. This includes encoding a plurality of instructions of a first length and a plurality of instructions of a second length. The method and system encode a header having at least one instruction length bit. The instruction bit distinguishes between instructions of the first length and instructions of the second length for an associated DSP to process in a mixed stream. The method and system distinguish between the instructions of the first length and the instructions of the second length according to the contents of the instruction length bits. The header further includes bits for distinguishing between instructions of varying lengths in an instruction packet.

  • Patent number: 7454607
Abstract: An arbitration engine manages applications in a portable communication device by identifying a comprehensive DSP image that includes all modules necessary to run a new application as well as currently active applications. The arbitration engine also includes a conflict detector that determines if simultaneously running the new application with the currently active applications results in a rule conflict or a hardware conflict. If no comprehensive DSP image is identified or if a conflict exists, a priority evaluator in the arbitration engine evaluates the priority of the new application relative to the maximum priority of the currently active applications. If the priority is greater than or equal to the maximum priority of the currently active applications, the new application is run.

  • Patent number: 7353319
Abstract: In a multiprocessor system, accesses to a given processor's banked cache are controlled such that shared data accesses are directed to one or more banks designated for holding shared data and/or non-shared data accesses are directed to one or more banks designated for holding non-shared data. A non-shared data bank may be designated exclusively for holding non-shared data, so that shared data accesses do not interfere with non-shared accesses to that bank. Also, a shared data bank may be designated exclusively for holding shared data, and one or more banks may be designated for holding both shared and non-shared data. An access control circuit directs shared and non-shared accesses to respective banks based on receiving a shared indication signal in association with the accesses. Further, in one or more embodiments, the access control circuit reconfigures one or more bank designations responsive to a bank configuration signal.

  • Patent number: 6865483
Abstract: A technique is provided to display a view perspective of an electronic map containing a number of viewable points of interest about a point of reference. The technique assigns a weighted importance value to each point of interest. Before displaying the view perspective of the requested map, the weighted importance value of each point of interest is summed and compared against a target value. If the summed weight substantially equals the predefined, the corresponding viewable points of interest are displayed in the view perspective.
