Patent number: 6172880Abstract: A faceplate assembly, for use with an electronic circuit card, comprising a faceplate and a movable plate, each including conductive portions or being made of a conductive material, and in electrical contact with each other. The faceplate is adapted to mount to an electronic circuit card, and has first and second opposite edges. The movable plate has a free edge and is movably coupled to the faceplate to move, by pivoting, sliding or the like, with respect to the faceplate between a retracted position and an extended position. Movement of the movable plate can be effected manually, or automatically by movement of the latches on the electronic circuit card assembly which latch the electronic circuit card assembly into an electronic circuit card housing.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 1998Date of Patent: January 9, 2001Assignee: Hubbell IncorporatedInventors: Eric M. Petitpierre, James H. Durham

Patent number: 6123304Abstract: A shelf apparatus, adaptable for supporting a computer keyboard, which is retractable into a storage compartment and can swivel and move in direction transverse to the direction of retraction, such that the orientation and position of the shelf can be changed freely when the shelf is extended out from the storage compartment. The shelf apparatus includes a shelf that is pivotally coupled to a support shelf that is retractable into the storage compartment. Alternatively, the shelf apparatus can include a shelf that is pivotally coupled to extensions which are pivotally coupled to each other and to a support inside the storage compartment. A clamp or cover is further provided which secures to the apparatus the cable which couples the computer keyboard to the computer.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 1997Date of Patent: September 26, 2000Assignee: Hubbell IncorporatedInventor: Gary W. Patent number: 6014302Abstract: A finger guard for use with an electronic device is provided for restricting physical access to a component of the electronic device having an uninsulated surface adapted to carry a voltage. The apparatus includes a housing which defines a first opening and which is adapted to mount to the electronic device so that the first opening permits passage of passive infrared energy and ambient light to the component. The apparatus further includes a projection arrangement, extending from the housing, which limits physical access to the surface of the component through the first opening, and defining a second opening through which the infrared energy can enter and pass through the first opening to the component. An electronic circuit can also be provided which limits current being provided to an uninsulated component, such as an infrared or ambient light detector of the electronic device, from a circuit of the electronic device.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 1998Date of Patent: January 11, 2000Assignee: Hubbell IncorporatedInventors: Thomas J. Batko, Ward E. Strang, Christopher A. Carbone

Patent number: 5988421Abstract: A universal ceiling box adapted to selectively support fans and fixtures. The ceiling box preferably has a substantially flat, top portion with a side portion extending substantially perpendicularly from the perimeter of the top portion. The side portion and the top portion form a main cavity with an open bottom end. A mounting element extends from the side portion into the main cavity for selectively coupling and supporting fans and fixtures thereto. The mounting element has a pair of opposed fan mounting holes with a first diameter, and a pair of opposed fixture mounting holes with a second diameter which is smaller than the first diameter. Each of the first and second mounting holes has an axis extending perpendicular to the top portion, respectively.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 1998Date of Patent: November 23, 1999Assignee: Hubbell IncorporatedInventor: Robert W. Jorgensen

Patent number: 5954304Abstract: An adjustable hanger assembly is disclosed for mounting and supporting an electrical box between a pair of structural supports, such as studs or joists. The adjustable hanger assembly is designed to properly position electrical boxes of different depths between the structural supports such that the open end of the electrical box is flush with the exterior surface of the wallboard or plasterboard, e.g., dry wall or sheet rock. The adjustable hanger assembly has a pair of telescoping support members slidably coupled together and a hanger strap fixedly coupled to an electrical box. The support members are preferably tubular with a rectangular transverse cross-section. One side of the support members acts as a positioning edge for maintaining the open end of an electrical box of a first depth flush with the exterior surface of the wall board.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 1996Date of Patent: September 21, 1999Assignee: Hubbell IncorporatedInventor: Robert W. Jorgensen

Patent number: 5955843Abstract: An apparatus and method for supplying emergency power to a lighting device, in particular, an HID lamp, when a failure occurs in a main power supply. The apparatus can include a rectifier circuit for converting an AC voltage signal provided by the main power supply to a DC voltage signal. A capacitive element can be coupled across the DC output terminals of the rectifier circuit and across a DC coil of a DC relay circuit. The amount of energy stored by the capacitor controls the DC relay to provide the voltage of the main power supply to the lamp circuit under normal conditions, and the voltage of an emergency power supply to the lamp circuit when the voltage of the main power supply falls below a predetermined level. Alternatively, an AC relay can be coupled directly to the main AC voltage power supply or emergency power supply and configured to perform a similar operation.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 1997Date of Patent: September 21, 1999Assignee: Hubbell IncorporatedInventors: Joseph A. Nuckolls, Isaac L. Flory, IV

Patent number: 5944210Abstract: A device box having a cover member and a base member releasably coupled together by a snap-fit latching arrangement. Preferably, both the cover member and the base member are integrally molded as one-piece, unitary members with only non-hidden surfaces so that they can be manufactured by straight draw-type injection molding techniques, rather than by molds using sliders. The latching arrangement of the preferred embodiments includes one or more latch members resiliently coupled to the base member for releasably engaging one or more apertures in the cover member.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 1997Date of Patent: August 31, 1999Assignee: Hubbell IncorporatedInventor: Karl Yetter

Patent number: 5927667Abstract: An improved mounting bracket can be used to selectively support both 4 inch square electrical boxes and 411/16 inch square electrical boxes such that vertical movement of either type of electrical box is limited. The mounting bracket is preferably a one-piece, unitary member stamped from sheet metal. The mounting bracket has a top support rail, a bottom support rail and a pair of mounting ends coupling the support rails together to define a large, elongated central cut-out portion. An electrical box and its associated cover may be mounted between two wall studs by first attaching the mounting bracket of the present invention to the wall studs. The open front end of the box is then placed flush against the rear surface of the bracket such that a top portion of the box contacts the bottom rail of the bracket.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 1996Date of Patent: July 27, 1999Assignee: Hubbell IncorporatedInventor: Richard D. Patent number: 5873946Abstract: An installation for lubricating, cleaning and/or disinfecting conveyor belts for containers, more particularly for foods, such as bottles, glasses, cans, bags and the like, comprising a central metering station connectable to a water pipe used to dilute a concentrated lubricant, cleaner or disinfectant, and several distributing pipes connected to the metering station lead to the points of use. At each point of use there is a mixing valve (13-19) connectable to distribution line (52) and the water pipe (23) and individually adjustable for each point of use and a pressure reducer (50, 51) fitted upstream of each mixing valve. Varying concentration can be provided for each point of use (31-37) with little technical complexity. In another embodiment, the invention is the process carried out by the installation.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 1996Date of Patent: February 23, 1999Assignee: Henkel-Ecolab GmbH & Co.
