  • Patent number: 8345949
Abstract: A method of automatic defect recognition includes receiving a initial set of inspection image data of a scanned object from a scanning machine; applying a first image analysis algorithm to this set of inspection image data; then removing from the set of inspection image data any defect-free image regions, so as to retain a set of analyzed inspection image data; applying an additional image analysis algorithm(s) to the set of analyzed inspection image data, wherein the additional algorithm(s) has a higher computational cost than the first image analysis algorithm; and based on the applying of the additional image analysis algorithm(s), removing from the first set of inspection image data a second set of defect-free image regions, thereby retaining a set of twice-analyzed inspection image data.

  • Patent number: 8327247
Abstract: The present techniques provide systems and methods for decoding an optical data signal returned from an optical disc to retrieve source information. The decoding method is based on a 16 state trellis diagram, and may decode an optical data signal encoded through a modulation code where the input-to-output relationship is not convolutional, such as the 17 Parity Preserve/Prohibit (17pp) modulation code. A trellis diagram may enable non-convolutional trellis-modulated data to be more efficiently decoded. Further, the 16 state trellis diagram of the present techniques provides a unique path for each input-to-output bit pair, such that no information about input bits may be lost on parallel paths in a trellis diagram.

  • Patent number: 8271209
Abstract: Methods, systems and computer program products for identifying components of an unknown mixture using spectral analysis techniques. The method includes comparing the spectrum of the unknown mixture with the spectra of library compounds to obtain candidate mixture combinations. A model is generated for each of the candidate mixture combinations based on a modeling metric. A residual spectrum is computed corresponding to each of the candidate mixture combinations by removing the spectrum of each of the compounds of the candidate mixture combination from the spectrum of the unknown mixture. One or more potential compounds are identified by comparing the residual spectrum with the spectrum of library compounds. The potential compounds are added to the candidate mixture combinations to generate an updated list of the candidate mixture combinations. The search algorithm repeats the steps described above on the updated candidate mixture combinations, until a first termination condition is satisfied.
