  • Patent number: 6807809
Abstract: A vehicle, such as a loader, has an operator-controlled hydrostatic drive that includes hydrostatic motors to drive wheels. The speed of the motors is proportional to an operator input provided to a controller that regulates the flow of hydraulic fluid from a pressure source to the motors. The regulation of fluid under pressure to the motors is achieved by utilizing electrical displacement control pumps that provide fluid flow in proportion to an input signal. The motors are fixed displacement motors, and when the wheels overrun as the vehicle rolls down an incline, the motors will act as pumps. The movement of the wheels is sensed to provide a signal to the controller to adjust one or both of the control pumps to provide a balancing counter pressure at the work port of the motor to insure that the vehicle will not creep or roll when it should be stopped.

  • Patent number: 6768610
Abstract: A method and apparatus position a plurality of data heads relative to a plurality of surfaces of at least one disc in a disc drive. One of the plurality of data heads corresponds to each of the plurality of surfaces. The data heads are provided for writing information to the surfaces and reading information from the surfaces. Each of the data heads may be simultaneously positioned relative to the corresponding surfaces using the embedded servo information. Information can be simultaneously transferred relative to the corresponding surfaces using the plurality of data heads. Uninterrupted sequential data transfers may also be executed without servo overhead. Further, an apparatus is provided for accomplishing such servo control, as is a method of accomplishing model-based servo control.

  • Patent number: 6760170
Abstract: A servo test is performed on a disc drive. The servo test includes performing a position error sample (PES) threshold test on tracks in the disc drive and identifying those tracks that fail the PES servo sample test. Zero acceleration path (ZAP) learning is performed on the identified tracks, and is performed on less than all of the tracks on the disc drive. Another PES servo threshold test is performed on the identified tracks to determine whether they pass the servo test, given the ZAP learning process.

  • Patent number: 6728060
Abstract: A method of writing to a disc in a disc drive includes receiving data to be written to a designated area of the disc wherein the designated area has a beginning, an end, and contains a defective portion. The data is written to the disc starting from the beginning of the designated area and proceeding toward the end of the designated area. The data is written to a temporary buffer, external to the disc, upon reaching the defective portion of the designated area. • Patent number: 6678409
Abstract: The present invention segments a non-segmented input text. The input text is received and segmented based on parameter values associated with parameterized word formation rules. In one illustrative embodiment, the input text is processed into a form which includes parameter indications, but which preserves the word-internal structure of the input text. Thus, the parameter values can be changed without entirely re-processing the input text.

  • Patent number: 6651220
Abstract: A method and system for retrieving information from an electronic dictionary. The system stores all information about words that have the same normalized form into a single entry within the electronic dictionary. The normalized form of a word has all lower case letters and no diacritical marks. When information is to be retrieved from the dictionary for a word, the word is first normalized and then the dictionary is searched for the entry corresponding to that normalized word. The entry that is found contains the information for that word.

  • Patent number: 6618768
Abstract: The present invention provides a method in a computer system of integrating a compression system with an operating system. The computer system preferably comprises at least a memory device and one storage device. A user-supplied device driver is provided for storage devices that are not supported by the computer system to enable the computer system to communicate with the storage devices. In response to initialization of the computer system, the operating/compression system is loaded into the memory device and begins executing before any user-supplied device drivers are loaded into the memory device. Any compressed volume files located on the computer system are assigned drive letters at this time. When the user-supplied device drivers are loaded into the memory device, drive letters are assigned to the various storage devices. A drive letter conflict resolution scheme is provided to resolve conflicts that occur when the operating system attempts to assign a drive letter.

  • Patent number: 6580579
Abstract: A system and method for attenuating the effect of rotational vibration on the positioning of the read/write head in a disc drive. The rotational acceleration of the disc drive body is sensed and applied to an adaptive filter that produces a feedforward signal designed to offset the effects of the rotational vibration. The adaptive filter adjusts its parameters based on the rotational acceleration signal, the position error signal of the servo system, and a transfer function relating the actual position signal to the feedforward signal. The plant estimate of the transfer function relating the actual position signal to the feedforward signal is determined off-line and stored for use by the adaptive filter in adjusting its parameters during operation.
