  • Patent number: 4840426
Abstract: An office chair in which a backrest and seat are articulated together and the resulting assembly pivotally suspended from the rear end of the side arms which form a pivot point positioned at or near the center of gravity of the chair when occupied. The pivot point is fixed in space by an underlying support system. The lower end of the arm rest is affixed to the rear transverse support arm of a support frame which is, in turn, mounted on the upper end of a vertical support column. The front end of the set member is slidably mounted on a forward cross arm of the support frame through a hexagonally-shaped sliding/locking member in such manner that the back rest and seat may be selectively locked in position or released to adjustably recline (backrest) and slide (seat).

  • Patent number: 4787054
Abstract: A transducer formed of one or more electrode arrays is positioned in confronting relation and parallel to the plane of rotation of one or more rotating members. A binary interdial compensation value is generated to correct for errors in the mechanical misalignments of certain ones of the rotating members which would normally lead to ambiguities in the dial readings.

  • Patent number: 4783193
Abstract: The present invention provides a process that utilizes synergistic chemical systems for decolorizing synthetic polymer materials, such as polyester, in a variety of shapes including fibers, yarns, fabrics, sheets and films. These chemical systems are unstable dispersions of alkyl halides and aqueous solutions of bleaching/oxidizing agents, such as the alkali metal salts of hypohalites, to which specified quantities of organic or inorganic acids and of surfactant/wetting agents are added. The polymeric materials are exposed to the activated chemical systems in appropriate reaction vessels. The stripping process is rapid and the resulting products are completely color-free. Further, the alkyl halide and bleaching/oxidizing components of the chemical systems can be reclaimed after the decolorizing process for recycling.

  • Patent number: 4778491
Abstract: Dirty air contaminated with cotton dust or the like is alternately directed against the left-hand section of a filter screen, then the right-hand section by a pair of movable baffle plates or vanes. While the dirty air impinges upon one section of the filter screen, backwash air is blown in the reverse direction through the opposite section of the other section to flush the impurities there collected. Upon receipt of a pressure differential generated signal that the one side is loaded, the baffle plates or vanes are moved to the opposite position whereby the one section of the filter screen is cleaned by the backwash air while the dirty air impinges upon the opposite side section. The interior of the filter apparatus is so constructed that the backwash air, after passing through the filter screen in the reverse direction circulates back beneath the vanes and exits in the forward direction through the screen with the clean air.

  • Patent number: 4775276
Abstract: A utility pole handling attachment for skid-steer type loaders includes an hydraulically operated gripper arm and support cradle for receiving and gripping a utility pole during pulling or setting operations or transporting. The attachment is adapted to pivot the gripped pole along a path from a transport position wherein the pole is parallel to the longitudinal axis of the loader, to a pulling or setting position wherein the pole is substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the loader for installation into or removal from the ground.

  • Patent number: 4775149
Abstract: An elongated shaft includes a spring anchoring point at each end and in the center. A pair of sleeves are slidably positioned on the shaft, one between the central anchoring point and each end anchoring point. Each sleeve is joined to the anchor point on either side thereof by a coil spring. Each coil spring is identical in length and tension strength, and is formed from steel wire of a selected gauge. The coil spring tension strength of all the springs on the bar is modified by varying the width distance between each coil turn in a selected segment or segments of each spring. In use, each spring may be compressed toward or extended away from the associated anchor point, depending upon the particular exercise.

  • Patent number: 4773202
Abstract: Method and apparatus, to be utilized by a newspaper carrier on a "vehicle route," for mechanically folding and bagging newspapers and like articles. A continuous length of heat-sealable polymeric film, wider than the newspaper or other article, is arranged along a generally horizontal feed path to form a folding station. The newspaper or like article is fed to the folding station of apparatus in parallel overlying relation to the film. A vertically reciprocal, motorized folder bar extends transversely across and above the film at a point substantially centrally located in the folding station. The folder bar is movable between an upper position above the feed path and a lower position below the feed path where there is formed a pouch of film surrounding the folded newspaper.

  • Patent number: 4768451
Abstract: Method and apparatus for automatically and sequentially transferring and inverting preformed pocket-like fabric blanks from a first sewing station where a first seam is applied to an outturned marginal edge to a second sewing station where a second parallel seam is applied to the inturned marginal edge. A first pickup mechanism identifies, lifts, and transfers multiple ply fabric work pieces from the surface of a work table onto a spreading jaw mechanism by clamping on the upper ply or plies of the work piece with a pair of gripping fingers. The first mechanism is inserted between the plies and operable to grip the upper ply of the work piece, even where the confronting, unseamed, marginal edges of the work piece are not aligned. A second spreading jaw mechanism includes a pair of vertically spreadable jaws onto which the fabric blank is placed. A third inverting mechanism slides between the spread jaws to invert the work piece onto a split mandrel.
