  • Patent number: 7810469
Abstract: Feedback control of an internal combustion engine is performed based on a signal from a vibration sensor and a crankshaft angle sensor. An energy factor can be computed based on these sensor signals. A vector of energy factor can be computed as a function of crank angle degree over a particular window of engine rotation of interest. Based on the energy factor vector, combustion phasing can be estimated.

  • Patent number: 7475535
Abstract: A method for improving NOx conversion efficiency of a Nox-reducing catalyst by determining an accurate amount of reductant required is presented. The method includes calculating an initial reductant injection amount based on a steady state amount of NOx in the engine feedgas and adjusting the initial amount to compensate for transient NOx emissions. • Patent number: 7431675
Abstract: A ratchet tensioner is disclosed for a chain enclosed within a casing that does not have a removable cover. The tensioner including a body for mounting on the exterior of the casing, a plunger slidably mounted in the body and urged in use into the interior of the casing to deflect a run of the chain laterally in order to increase tension in the chain. The plunger is formed with ratchet teeth which interact with a pawl that is pivotably mounted on the body to permit movement of the plunger only in the direction to increase chain tension. In the invention, a pin is provided for inhibiting pivoting movement of the pawl during installation of the tensioner, the pin being retractable from outside the casing in order to free the pawl after the tensioner has been mounted on the casing.

  • Patent number: 7418816
Abstract: A method is presented for determining an amount of reductant stored in the catalyst by intrusively desorbing a portion of reductant and monitoring the response of a reductant sensor to the desorbed portion. The desorbtion can be performed at vehicle start-up to determine initial storage amount and to adjust reductant injection accordingly to achieve optimum storage. Additionally, a portion of reductant can be desorbed when NOx conversion efficiency of the catalyst is reduced in order to diagnose the component responsible for system degradation.
