  • Patent number: 4538448
Abstract: A method and a device for determining explosivity rate of a gaseous medium with a detecting filament which is heated in said medium by an electric current flowing therethrough. Said detecting filament is ignited through connection to a power supply and power supplied to said filament is regulated so as to maintain constant the resistance thereof. At some successive moments value of a quantity U significant for power supplied to said filament is taken into account. An exponential curve is extrapolated from such values; parameters thereof are identified and introduced in a process function adapted to deduce therefrom an estimation of the initial explosivity rate of said gaseous medium independently of the nature of the explosive gas(es) present therein.

  • Patent number: 4537374
Abstract: A structural support comprises inner and outer elements which are telescopingly engaged, a cage secured to the inner element and having apertures in which balls are disposed which are disposed radially between the two elements, and a frangible connection securing the two elements against relative axial movement. In the locked relative positions of the elements, the outer element has locally an increased internal diameter portion and the balls are radially disposed in this position or are moved into the portion on being subjected to an axial force which breaks the frangible connection, so that the relative axial movement of the elements results in the ball plastically deforming the outer element and absorbing energy from the force to protect the body carried by the support. The support can be used to provide a brace operating as a strut and/or a tie, or a shock absorber, or, by mounting a damping piston slidably in the inner tubular element can provide a shock absorbing piston and cylinder unit.

  • Patent number: 4532170
Abstract: The scuff resistance of a high-pressure laminate is improved by incorporating in or very near the surface thereof, finely divided polyethylene wax preferably having a particle size of about 1-25 microns and a melting point of 220.degree.-230.degree. F. The wax is incorporated as part of a coating mixture applied to the face of an unimpregnated decor paper sheet in an ultra-thin layer, which layer is dried at a temperature below the wax melting point and then impregnated with conventional melamine-formaldehyde resin. The impregnated sheet is placed onto a sheet of convention phenolic resin impregnated core sheets and consolidated in the conventional way under heat and pressure. During consolidation, the wax particles "bloom", or migrate to the surface. The finished laminate surface has greatly improved scuff resistance.
