  • Patent number: 4468315
Abstract: A process for hydrogenating coal which has been mixed with oils, by bringing the coal slurry to the reaction pressure by pumping, heating the slurry and catalytically hydrogenating it with hydrogen, wherein some or all of the hot gases and vapors formed during hydrogenation are intimately re-mixed with the coal slurry in a plurality of stages. • Patent number: 4465247
Abstract: A magnetic tape transport apparatus wherein at least one capstan simultaneously drives the take-up and supply reels, and wherein tape tension is generated by a braking device allotted to each tape reel, each braking device consisting of an assembly of levers (A, B, C, and D, E, Z) and a braking cable which is wound around the axle supporting the tape reel, and by means of which the braking forces are so adjusted that it is always the axle of the supply reel which is braked, while the axle of the take-up reel runs relatively freely. In a practical embodiment, the lever assembly comprises at least three hingedly connected levers (A, B, C and D, E, Z), viz. two lateral levers and an interconnecting lever, it being possible to obtain different lever arrangements by varying the locations of the movable pivot points (G) and the fixed fulcrum points (F) FIGS. 1 to 3).

  • Patent number: 4458929
Abstract: The subject of the invention is an automatic locking mechanism for a revolving shutter to protect the latter against unauthorized pulling up from the outside, using a locking device which is moved into the locking position after the revolving-shutter casing has been lowered. The device has a lateral axle bearing, with a round bearing element (11) for a belt pulley (2) and a fixed square bearing pin (8) connected thereto and the end of which is designed as a round cylinder. The belt pulley (2) has an annular web (2a) and the roller insertion cap (1) has an annular web (1a), the side webs (1a/2a) having different diameters and interlocking coaxially. A pivotable locking lever (6) engages positively through coinciding gaps. In the lowered state of the revolving-shutter casing, the lever (6) engages with the fixed bearing pin (8) and clamps belt pulley and roller insertion cap against unauthorized turning, so that the revolving-shutter roller connected to the roller insertion cap is also locked.

  • Patent number: 4457723
Abstract: A fabric formed from fiber-like strands of hollow, transparent filaments which have been woven or otherwise joined together is disclosed. The hollow strands contain a liquid in which color-coded micromagnets are dispersed. The micromagnets are free to rotate within the filament, the fabric thereby being capable of changing colors, either selectively or totally, when an activating magnetic force causes the micromagnets therein to rotate. The fabric may incorporate, in place of color-coded micromagnets, other orientable bodies which are also capable of being oriented, as for example by an electromagnetic or electrostatic force field, to produce a visual display. Further, the fabric may comprise a material having one or more liquid filled veins, the liquid again containing color-coded micromagnets or orientable bodies dispersed therein.

  • Patent number: 4456160
Abstract: A guide device for tape-like recording media, especially a reversing guide device for magnetic tapes, that are transported at high speed, which comprises at least one guide roll, around whose periphery the recording medium is guided, and which is rotatably mounted in bearings, a deliberate specific braking torque being produced between the guide roll and its bearings. Further embodiments concern the roughness of the roll's peripheral surface, the design of flanges for the lateral guidance of the recording medium and the use of two guide rolls. The braking torque is produced by braking means acting on the guide roll. The novel guide device can be used advantageously in any high-speed magnetic tape transport apparatus for the recording/reproduction of any type of audio, video or data signal.
