Abstract: A system and method for virtual linking a wireless device to another device is disclosed herein. The system includes an access point and a controller configured to mediate transmissions between the wireless device and the another device. The system further includes a virtual device table and a permissions filter to ensure virtual linking between devices that have matching access right and requested services. The wireless device and the another device may have the same or dissimilar protocols.

Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for efficiently encoding data representing a video image, thereby reducing the amount of data that must be transferred to a decoder. The method includes transforming data sets utilizing a tensor product wavelet transform which is capable of transmitting remainders from one subband to another. Collections of subbands, in macro-block form, are weighted, detected, and ranked enabling prioritization of the transformed data. A motion compensation technique is performed on the subband data producing motion vectors and prediction errors which are positionally encoded into bit stream packets for transmittal to the decoder. Subband macro-blocks and subband blocks which are equal to zero are identified as such in the bit stream packets to further reduce the amount of data that must be transferred to the decoder.

Abstract: Systems and methods for providing partial bleeder braking engine valve actuation are disclosed. In an embodiment of the present invention, a cam may be provided with a main exhaust lobe, a partial bleeder lobe and an inner base circle portion between the two lobes. A rocker arm including an internal rocker passage may be operatively connected to the cam. The rocker arm may contact a valve bridge at a central portion. The valve bridge may be operatively connected to first and second engine valves at its first and second ends, respectively. A slave piston incorporated into the first end of the valve bridge and a master piston may be incorporated into the central portion of the valve bridge. A hydraulic circuit may be provided between the master and slave pistons. A bleed hole may be provided above the slave piston.
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for hydraulic valve actuation of engine valves are disclosed. An exemplary embodiment of the present invention may include a plurality of slave piston assemblies that impart motion to the engine valves, wherein the motion is operable to open and close the engine valves. A dual diameter master piston assembly may be used to drive the plurality of slave pistons. The dual diameter master piston assembly may be divided into two or more elements with, for example, a spring bias or a button and T-slot assembly to hold the two elements together.
Abstract: This invention relates to novel lactams of Formula (I): having drug and bio-affecting properties, their pharmaceutical compositions and methods of use. These novel compounds inhibit the processing of amyloid precursor protein and, more specifically, inhibit the production of A?-peptide, thereby acting to prevent the formation of neurological deposits of amyloid protein. More particularly, the present invention relates to the treatment of neurological disorders related to ?-amyloid production such as Alzheimer's disease and Down's Syndrome.

Abstract: A computer controlled method for detecting and diagnosing a rare cell type in a tissue sample is provided, said method comprising treating the tissue sample such that it generates a first signal indicative of the presence at a location of a rare cell, detecting the first signal, treating the location at which the first signal is detected to generate a second signal indicative of a diagnostically useful cellular characteristic and detecting the second signal. The first signal can be morphological or a color present in a sought cell either before or after staining. The second signal can be generated by in situ PCR or PCR in situ hybridization. In one preferred embodiment, the rare cell type is a fetal cell in a maternal blood tissue sample, said sample consisting of a smear of unenriched maternal blood. In another embodiment, the method is used to diagnose or genotype cancer cells in a blood or tissue biopsy sample.
Abstract: A system for automatically locating positions on an object and uniquely identifying the object employing an electronic tag positioned in or on the object. The system utilizes a plurality of sensors to locate the electronic tag and identify the object, and triangulation techniques to locate positions on the object where the object may be manipulated according to instructions coded with respect to the positions. Advantageously, the present invention may be used for automatically locating specimens on a microscope slide without regards to their positions on the slide, and for uniquely labeling a microscope slide.
Abstract: A system and method for storing personal, medical, and insurance related information on a wireless device are disclosed. The information may be stored by sending it from a remote personal computer to a central database using the Internet. The information may be stored on the central database. The information may be accessed on the wireless device (e.g. on a display) or sent from the wireless device or a central database to remote locations, such as a doctor's office or hospital.

Abstract: A complex dry vacuum pump including a root rotor and a screw rotor is disclosed for manufacturing semiconductors and/or displays in a vacuum state in a process chamber, and discharging gaseous material and/or by-products generated during manufacturing to the exterior of the process chamber. The pump can provide high gas compression transfer efficiency so as to form a vacuum in the process chamber and/or keep high gas compression transfer efficiency when the gaseous material and/or by-products are discharged. Balance between the root rotor and the screw rotor can prevent vibration and noise generated in the vacuum pump, and molding material associated with the pump may allow a stator coil to be separated and prevent various by-products from flowing from the vacuum pump.

Abstract: An engine valve actuation system for an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The valve actuation system may include a longitudinally extending link member pivotally attached to an engine member. A longitudinally extending finger follower may be pivotally attached to the link member. The finger follower may include first and second contact surfaces spaced longitudinally from each other. A lost motion piston may contact the first contact surface of the finger follower and an engine valve assembly may contact the second contact surface of the finger follower. A means for receiving valve actuation motion, such as a cam follower, may be incorporated into the finger follower. A valve seating device may contact a third contact surface located on the link member, and a biasing spring may contact a fourth contact surface on the finger follower.

Abstract: A control method for transitioning from positive power to engine braking (and vice-versa) is disclosed. This transition may be made using variable valve actuation and two-stroke braking. The process may involve three engine operation modes: positive power (i.e., firing or non-braking), engine braking, and transition between engine braking and positive power. The intake and exhaust valve actuations provided for each of the different modes of operation may be different from each other.
Abstract: A method for adaptive automatic error and mismatch correction is disclosed for use with a system having an automatic error and mismatch correction learning module, an automatic error and mismatch correction model, and a classifier module. The learning module operates by receiving pairs of documents, identifying and selecting effective candidate errors and mismatches, and generating classifiers corresponding to these selected errors and mismatches. The correction model operates by receiving a string of interpreted speech into the automatic error and mismatch correction module, identifying target tokens in the string of interpreted speech, creating a set of classifier features according to requirements of the automatic error and mismatch correction model, comparing the target tokens against the classifier features to detect errors and mismatches in the string of interpreted speech, and modifying the string of interpreted speech based upon the classifier features.

Abstract: Systems and methods of actuating engine valves using a hydraulic valve actuation system are disclosed. The valve actuation system includes a master piston and two slave pistons slidably disposed in bores provided in a housing. The master piston and two slave pistons are connected together by a hydraulic circuit. Linear motion imparted to the master piston is transferred to the two slave pistons via the hydraulic circuit. In turn, the two slave pistons may actuate one or more engine valves directly or through an intermediate valve bridge. A valve seating device may be provided to assist in seating the engine valves in embodiments where the valve actuation system is adapted to provide variable valve actuation.
