  • Patent number: 4488245
Abstract: This specification discloses a method and means for color detection and modification wherein the recognition of color is based on the definition of a three-dimensional color sub-space within a three-dimensional color universe. Chromaticity values are digitized and modeled as a function of brightness or luminance. Three eight-bit words (each having 256 values) are stored for each pixel of a digitized color picture. The first value is an approximation of luminance, while the second and third values represent variations of chromaticity or chrominance. Over sixteen million combinations of color values are available for each of over one million pixels in a 1024.times.1024 pixel array image. Pattern recognition techniques are used to determine if a given color value lies within the three-dimensional color sub-space. Additional means and method are disclosed to modify or manipulate the color defined by the color sub-space.

  • Patent number: 4362805
Abstract: A conveying mechanism and flexible carrier for transporting a planar printing plate and flexible overlying mask from a flat loading station to a precisely-curved cylindrically-shaped scanning station, and back to the flat loading station, is disclosed. The vacuum carrier used is rigid in one axis and flexible in a second axis, and has a pair of reference strips which define a neutral bending axis for the plate and mask when the latter are wrapped around a pair of precisely machined cylindrical discs. By locating the flexible mask and printing plate outside the neutral axis of bending, both are placed in tension when wrapped around the discs. This maintains uniform contact between the plate and mask and prevents wrinkling of the mask as it overlies the plate. The carrier and discs support the plate and mask within a precise and uniform cylindrical plane for scanning with focussed beams of radiation.

  • Patent number: 4344699
Abstract: Automatic control of exposure level and contrast correction for a photographic printer is disclosed. The printer uses dynamic masking achieved by modulating the intensity and velocity of a CRT scanning spot. A prescan is employed to evaluate the negative and establish exposure level and contrast grade excursion limits for the subsequent exposure. Different control systems are disclosed for contact printing and projection printing.

  • Patent number: 4025746
Abstract: A switch system for interconnecting a plurality of balanced line inputs with a plurality of balanced line outputs is disclosed. The lines are crossed in a matrix with a pair of rotatable switch means mounted at each crosspoint. Each pair of the switch means provides straight through connections for the input and output lines while in a first position, and a cross connection at the matrix point while in a second position. The switch means provides identical path lengths for each side of the balanced line before and after switching. The switch system also includes means for grounding the unused contacts and the inactive line sections remaining in the matrix after an interconnection has been made. The matrix is formed of a plurality of interchangeable modules that allow quick and convenient expansion of the matrix when needed.
