    Abstract: A method of fabricating plastic products with an integrated Lenticular lens material that thermally protects the ink layer and outer lens surfaces of the Lenticular insert. A Lenticular lens material is provided with a Lenticular lens layer with an outer surface of optical ridges and an ink layer bonded to a transparent lens layer. A thermal protective substrate comprising opaque flexographic ink is applied to the ink layer. The application of the thermal protective substrate is completed using a coating unit of a lithographic press. A Lenticular insert is formed from the coated Lenticular lens material and the insert is positioned within a mold cavity. The object is formed by inserting a liquid plastic charge into the mold cavity. The thermal protective substrate insulates the ink layer. Concurrently, the portion of the mold adjacent the insert is cooled to a temperature below the deformation temperature of the optical ridges.

    Abstract: A system and method for effectuating distributed consensus among members of a processor set in a multiprocessor computing system that is effective even when only a single surviving processor is operational and is achieved through joint implementation of a virtual state machine utilizing a sequence of numbered input commands. System synchronization is achieved by having all of the processors agree on the sequence of input commands so that they execute the same virtual state machine. Input commands are numbered consecutively and the processors use a set of shared stores (e.g. disk drives) to communicate amongst themselves requests (i.e. ballots) for new state machine inputs (or commands) and state machine inputs that have already been chosen (i.e. committed commands). A consensus process is used to decide upon (or commit) each command and this consensus is achieved using a majority of known system stores rather than a majority of known processors.

    Abstract: A system, method and computer program product for hardware assisted backup for a computer mass storage subsystem wherein files to be backed up from a source storage medium (e.g. disk) to a formatted storage medium (e.g. tape) are written in logical block number (“LBN”) order regardless of the file's on-disk layout. If the source file structure information is available it is used or the disk blocks containing the file structure are marked in a used (or “free”) block bit map which may then be modified to exclude files that are “open for write”, marked as “no backup” or not part of the selected file save operation. In operation, the blocks are written to tape using a Tape Copy Data (“TCD”) command. Blocks that were selected, but excluded as “open for write” may then be written to the tape utilizing more conventional methodologies.

The game server then optimizes the transmission of information packets through the telecommunication network to the game client. Processed user input is received through the telecommunication network from the game client and transmitted to the game driver.

    Abstract: A system and method of compensating for non-linear voltage-to-delay characteristics in a voltage controlled delay line such as those used in delay-locked loop (“DLL”) circuits in integrated circuit (“IC”) devices such as double data rate (“DDR”) dynamic random access memory (“DRAM”), static random access memory (“SRAM”), processors and other IC devices. The technique renders the incremental changes for each correction to the control voltages to the voltage controlled delay line a function of the control voltage itself. The change in the control voltage becomes smaller as the control voltage gets lower thereby effectively precluding over-correction and excessive jitter.

    Abstract: This disclosure involves the combination of data compression and decompression with a virtual memory system. A number of computer systems are discussed, including so-called embedded systems, in which data is stored in a storage device in a compressed format. In response to a request for data by a central processing unit (CPU), the virtual memory system will first determine if the requested data is present in the portion of main memory that is accessible to the CPU, which also happens to be where decompressed data is stored. If the requested data is not present in the decompressed portion of main memory, but rather is present in a compressed format in the storage device, the data will be transferred into the decompressed portion of main memory through a demand paging operation. During the demand paging operation, the compressed data will be decompressed.

    Abstract: A low power consumption delay locked loop for integrated circuit devices wherein a wider frequency range of operation is achieved by matching the delay of the clock comparison function of the phase detector to the slow operating condition of the programmable delay. In a particular embodiment, this may be effectuated by incorporating at least one additional flip-flop section in the phase detector circuit and more than one such section may be utilized depending on the operating targets of maximum frequency and frequency range. By latching the phase detector outputs through the use of a fast/slow latch circuit, a minimum control pulse is defined which allows a unitized change on the voltage signals that control the programmable delay in a voltage controlled delay line. This also improves efficiency and reduces power consumption by eliminating switching current through transistors that control the voltage levels determining the programmable delay.

    Abstract: A closed loop wire saw loop, a method for making the closed wire saw loop, and an apparatus and method for slicing a work piece, in particular, a polysilicon or single crystal silicon ingot, utilizing a closed loop of diamond impregnated wire in which the work piece (or ingot) is rotated about its longitudinal axis as the diamond wire is driven orthogonally to it and advanced from a position adjoining the outer diameter (“OD”) of the ingot towards its inner diameter (“ID”). In this manner, the diamond wire cuts through the work piece at a substantially tangential point to the circumference of the cut instead of through up to the entire diameter of the piece and single crystal silicon ingots of 300 mm to 400 mm or more may be sliced into wafers relatively quickly, with minimal ‘kerf” loss and less extensive follow-on lapping operations. The closed wire saw loop is made by squaring and welding the wire ends together and then twice heat treating the weld at about 1500 F.

    Abstract: A computer system is capable of recovering from a deadlock using communication gateway devices, such as a bridges, which each use a deadlock recovery mechanism. Rather than avoid deadlocks through constant monitoring of the communications path, the bridge allows the deadlock to occur. The recovery mechanisms of the bridges control the resolution of the deadlock. In one embodiment, the recovery mechanism within each bridge causes the local device which controls its bridge to disconnect. Additionally, the bridges terminate their requests for control of each other, thereby breaking the deadlock and allowing communications to resume. In another embodiment, the recovery mechanism within each bridge terminates the bridge's request for control of the other bridge. Additionally, the recovery mechanisms cause the bridges to become idle in accordance with a time delay value. The bridge with the shorter delay becomes active first and takes control of the communication path, thereby breaking the deadlock.

    Abstract: In a data storage system a number of records are prefetched from large volume storage devices for transfer to a cache in order to return requested records to a host computer in response to a read request from the host computer. If a previous prefetch is not complete when the read request is received, the number of records in a next prefetch of records is increased by a preset amount. If a previous prefetch is complete, a next prefetch of records is initiated with the same number of records in the prefetch as the previous prefetch. The initiation of prefetch operations is triggered by detection of a sequential read stream in a plurality of read requests from the host computer. When the prefetch size is increased, the preset amount of the increase equals the number of records in the read request from the host computer. After requested records are returned from the cache to the host computer in response to the read request, storage space in the cache used by the returned requested records is released.

A desired bandwidth for a particular connection is achieved by an adaptive or delta-based approach rather than by use of round trip time (RTT) computations.
