  • Patent number: 4422441
Abstract: A semi-permanent and collapseable shield of metal foil is pleated concertina-like to present a U-shaped half circular body capable when open, to surround a stove heating element and a cooking pot thereon, to catch the splatter from the pot. The shield is capable of being stacked with other shields for packaging in multiples.

  • Patent number: 4197893
Abstract: A puncture resistant pneumatic tire including a casing and an inner tube where the side walls of the casing flex under load a known amount, the method of designing a puncture shield which does not fail from reversion when driven at high speeds. The shield is made in a mould from liquid natural rubber a foaming agent and other compounds. The outer surface of the ring is contoured to mate with the lower inside of the tire casing and the upper or inner surface of the ring is designed to protect the tube from bulging in use and to be able itself to withstand flexing at the flex zone of the casing, by forming the inner surface with a convex shape at its outer sides and by flattening and upwardly bulging the inner surface of the shield where it overlies the tread portion of the tire to create tapered wings at its sides as seen in cross section and a massive puncture resistant portion over the tire treads.

  • Patent number: 4129787
Abstract: A free standing, vertical axis rotor employs both fixed and pivoted airfoil blades assembled on a triangular rotor frame. The angle of attack of the pivoted blades is controlled with reference to the prevailing winds. The rotar base terminates on a ring shaped tower mounted on guiding wheels disposed in a circular pattern on pillars. The revolving ring shaped base forms the armature of an energy converter by electromagnetic induction allowing thereby the conversion of rotary motion to electric energy at ground level.

  • Patent number: 4120793
Abstract: A method and apparatus for recovering oil spills on water comprising surrounding an oil spill with booms attached to a recovery vessel having sluice gate openings in its bow and then moving the vessel into the oil spill while applying pumping suction action at the openings to draw the oil into the vessel. The oil and any water entering the vessel with the oil is directed along a horizontally disposed and heated conduit where the oil is allowed to seek its natural level above the water. Baffle means are provided along the conduit to entrap the oil above the water from whence the oil is drawn off to a storage and settling tank. A U bend is formed in the conduit to recover any remaining oil in the system before the water is discharged from the vessel.

  • Patent number: 4094786
Abstract: The disclosed control apparatus for water treatment systems embodies a float switch actuably responsive to a predetermined drop in stored water level causing the pumping of treatment solution to a predetermined rate of flow controlled by a flow orifice for a predetermined period of time when called for by a thus energized clock totalizer embodying cam mechanism therein and a sensitive switch responsive thereto for controlling the flow of treatment solution to the water reservoir proportional to the delivery of make up water controlled by the float switch.

  • Patent number: 4084309
Abstract: An apparatus and method for manufacturing flexible duct comprising feeding a strip of cloth and a channel formed strip of metal in parallel through a work station having a pair of crimping rollers which fasten an edge of the fabric into the channel. A forming ring is provided at the work station to guide a first coil of fabric attached to channel strip around to meet and overlap a second coil of fabric being fed into the work station. A roller member is rotatably fixed above the work station to force the overlapping edges of adjacent coils of fabric down into the channel of the metal strip being simultaneously fed in parallel with the fabric toward the crimping rolls. The roller member carries with it a string which it inserts into the channel over the overlapping edges of the fabric prior to the combined materials being fed into crimping rollers where they are forced into a retained and fixed position within the enfolded arms of the crimped channel of metal.

  • Patent number: 4047494
Abstract: The following specification discloses a mechanism for attachment to a water jet pump as used for propelling boats which has as its object the deflection of the water jet at an angle to the path of travel of the boat. The mechanism comprises a chain and cable or a pair of gears controlled by a steering member to deflect the jet of water through a variable path at the rear of the boat to thereby provide a thrust to the boat in the opposite direction and allowing the boat to be moved out of a normal forward path.
