Abstract: A method is described controlling enzymatic decomposition of peroxide comprising contacting a composition containing a peroxide decomposing enzyme with an aldehyde functional polymer added in an amount effective to control the enzyme. There also is a method described for bleaching cellulose pulp, such as recycled paper pulp or other pulps, with an aldehyde functional polymer introduced in an amount effective to control peroxide decomposing enzymes present in the pulp being bleached. Paper products containing the aldehyde functional polymer used to control peroxide decomposing enzymes in a bleaching treatment of cellulose pulp are also provided.

Abstract: A laser method of printing a pattern on works which is read at a high read rate by optical readers and a system for implementing the laser processing method are described. Print pattern data is generated based on printing conditions including at least an original print pattern such as a character string that are specified by users and then converted into data representing an actual print pattern to be actually printed on works according to a three dimensional profile of the works so that an orthogonal projection of that actual print pattern is identical with the original print pattern.
Abstract: A continuously-arranged sensor system is provided that can eliminate a shift in timing between a determination signal of each sensor unit and sensor information relating to the determination signal. The continuously-arranged sensor system includes a network unit and a plurality of sensor units, which are connected by a serial transmission line and a parallel transmission line. In accordance with a command sent from the network unit, each sensor unit transmits the determination signal and the sensor information, provided at the same time as the determination signal, to the network unit via the serial transmission line. Therefore, the network unit can obtain the determination signal and the sensor information exhibited at the same time.

Abstract: An image of a measurement object is displayed, and specification of a feature image and a measurement position is received on the displayed image. The feature image, the specification has been received, and information on relative positions for the feature image, which represents the measurement position and a display position of a dimension line, are stored. A newly acquired image of the measurement object is compared with the feature image to identify information on the attitude and the position of the image of the measurement object. A measurement position is set for the image of the measurement object with the identified attitude and position, and then predetermined physical quantities are measured. Based on the stored information on the relative position for the feature image displaying the dimension line, a dimension line indicating a measurement position and a measurement result are displayed at predetermined positions.
Abstract: Extruded tantalum billets and niobium billets are described having a substantially uniform grain size and preferably an average grain size of about 150 microns or less and more preferably an average grain size of about 100 microns or less. The extruded billet can then be forged or processed by other conventional techniques to form end use products such as sputtering targets. A process for making the extruded tantalum billets or niobium billets is also described and involves extruding a starting billet at a sufficient temperature and for a sufficient time to at least partially recrystallize the billet and form the extruded billet of the present invention.
Abstract: Silicone hydrogel contact lenses having ophthalmically acceptable surface wettabilities are obtained from pre-extracted polymerized silicone hydrogel contact lens products having relatively large amounts of removable or extractable materials. The silicone hydrogel contact lenses can be obtained from non-polar resin based contact lens molds and without surface treatments or an interpenetrating polymeric network of a polymeric wetting agent. Related lens products, polymerizable compositions, and methods are also described.

Abstract: There is provided a system for storing electrical energy during an off-peak period and distributing the electrical energy to consumers during a peak period. The system includes an energy storage means for storing the electrical energy; a first means for directing the electrical energy produced during the off-peak period into the energy storage means; and a second means for directing the electrical energy from the energy storage means to consumers during the peak period. Preferably, the energy storage means consists of five sodium-nickel-chloride batteries having a specific energy in the range of about 80 to about 200 Wh/kg, preferably about 100 to about 150 Wh/kg, and most preferably about 120 Wh/kg.
Abstract: A method is provided for producing TiO2 nanoparticles. The nanoparticles can be further processed by neutralization, calcination, and/or micronization. The TiO2 nanoparticle size is controlled by controlling synthetic and process conditions. TiO2 nanoparticles produced are of the anatase polymorph, of the rutile polymorph, or a mixture thereof, and have particle sizes in the range of from 10 nm to 100 nm.

Abstract: Provided is a code reading device capable of reducing a time from start of reading of a symbol code until a decoded result is transmitted to an external device. The code reading device includes first and second CPUs that access a shared memory, an imaging element that optically reads the symbol code to generate a read image, and a DMAC that transfers the read image from the imaging element to the shared memory. The first CPU decodes the read image in the shared memory based on a command of the second CPU. The second CPU selectively executes any one of an imaging control task, a decode control task, and a decoded result transmission task, in which the imaging control task is given priority over the decode control task, and the decode control task is given priority over the decoded result transmission task.
